While you have a 2018 model it appears they have become bigger and bulkier than in the past. Like you, I have very small wrists. My model from around 1990 has a 32 mm case and is 4 mm in depth. My watch has the gold dot and hands and also has the black Teflon link band. These newer models don't really define minimalism at all well. Try and get a much older model and see the difference.

Computer enthusiasts would never buy a name brand system, especially not HP. They're expensive for what you get and all generic, low end no-name stuff inside, the only actual brand being on the outside of the case, like HP. in this instance. (I've built a lot of computers but never did video editing.) More than 4 RAM slots is highly unusual but computer components are pretty cheap if you know what to look for. It's a good time to buy memory. I'd give Apple a very wide berth these days for various reasons I'm happy to enumerate if you wish. I know there is a lot of love for DaVinci Resolve but getting it going on Linux is often challenging because it officially supports only CentOS, which is probably no longer suitable for it anyway, due to some big changes, leaving you with Rocky, perhaps or trying your luck with a different distro and consulting forums. If it's Windows and Resolve doesn't like your hardware, just change that piece. It does seem to require 32 GB of RAM so if you skimp on that, it's bad. Lots of people like computers and will happily advise you, witness the foregoing. 😉

The press back is better than the screw down tool because it gives the user the tactile sensation of the work, the screw down might press too far and break a crystal or something. From a watch person’s perspective, or a watch collector/horologist, they are junk. What determines Swatch to be junk is not the initial price, but Swatch’s own design and intention for the watch. They were designed to be either thrown away (they are not repairable) or simply collected like baseball cards. That was exactly the stated design consideration of the Swatch group upon their creation…basically a trendy fashion statement with not only disposability, but required disposability since they are not constructed to allow repairs. So basically JUNK means bad investment, case close. The Swatch product line was developed as a response to the new generation irrational point of view of the so called by them “quartz crisis” of the 70s and 80s. Rumor has it that the name Swatch is a contraction of “second cheap ugly watch”, as the watches were intended as casual comic art, fashion statement not a quality time piece to be admired or be proud of and a disposable accessories like a pair of cheap socks that would indicate more about your bad taste and lack of brains than anything else.For the poor quality and for the splash proof water resistance ( you cannot even go swimming with it or get caught in the rain)), they do NOT justify the premium price when compared to a Casio ( as an example only ).Also it is not a particular great or outstanding watch movement for the price. The ticking is very loud and annoying but if you’re a ‘DORK’ or you like the silly color Art then you wear this junk ( you are not considering or value quality in your time piece and most probably in the rest of your personal possessions). They are NOT worth your money, case close.

Cool to see my watch on KZbin again. Basically everything is correct. Except the fact that the bezel remover couldn’t do the trick because the case is a mono block case. What looks like it could be separated in the middle is in fact just a change in color. I drilled a little hole in the rubber and pressed it against the open caseback to make it airtight for a moment. Then I took my compressor and pressed the airgun on the hole in the rubber. I set the compressor to six atmospheres. I pulled the trigger and then the crystal popped out of the front. 🕐⚙️🍸

I believe Patek aren't allowed to use the Geneva seal purely because they use silicon hairsprings, so that shows some people high up in the Swiss watch industry don't like them. As you say it is about repairability, watch makers can source new metal hairsprings and modify them to fit an old watch, where as I suspect silicon is far more difficult to work with. I won't buy Tissot Powermatics, because they contain plastic escapement parts and are designed to be thrown away rather than serviced, crazy when you think Seiko and Miyota cheaper movements are serviceable and made in the traditional way.
@jozsefizsak5 күн бұрын
First I've heard of it. Planned obsolescence often involves restricting parts availability so this could be a way to get mechanical watches onto the scrap heap along with smart watches. A friend of mine got fed up with despicable companies so he replaced his Apple watch with a Casio G-Shock Mudman. That is a very impressive beast and connecting to a timesever through a radio ensures that it's acceptably accurate!

I wonder if the Nivachron hairspring in my Certina will leave me in a couple of years. Maybe not because it’s not silicon. 🕐⚙️🍸

It does seem weird to put plastic in an otherwise 'built to last forever ' movement.
@MiguelBricaBrac5 күн бұрын
Magnetic fields are very prominent with all the tech we interact daily and silicone hair springs are awesome at keeping perfectly oscillating in these fields. They are also very durable and can last as long as a traditional hairspring, and are not affected by drops or rise in temperature like alloy hairsprings. At least that is what I have read about them. However, I still prefer an ETA2824 or a Seiko 6106 movement
@KillingTimeWithNorman5 күн бұрын
Thanks for that - especially the longevity note! 🍸🍸
@jaysterling265 күн бұрын
Agreed. Swarch Group has nivacharon hair spring ( titanium nit silicon but anti magnetic- you probably know all this, sorry). As far as I know the movements are exchanged Apparently the 'new' movement has been recycled. This has been said to save everyone 's time & money. I assume the Swiss have high sustainability goals ( see above point) . I could be wrong. Also, on forums it's been said magnetised watches are an issue as jewellers / watchmakers have to regularly fix them.Or just watch that magnetic clip on your bag, wallet, your fridge, etc? I have 3 watches that I bought so I have some anti magnetic watches in my collection - I also liked the watches besides this, however but given the option... I'm probably incorrect- please correct these points. Cheers.

I personally would not be interested in a watch movement with silicon hairspring. I love mechanical watch movements. Since I have a small watch budget I buy NH35A watches. They are very dependable. Not necessarily always super accurate but always functional and useable. If the watch ever did malfunction I have the option of buying a new movement for 30 dollars and replacing it. The NH35A movement is so popular and so cheap that I do believe it will be around for a long time. They are manufactured in Malaysia. This movement is well designed for the DIY watch enthusiast so they are easy to replace, install new dials and hands etc. Mod parts are affordable as well as cases and bands. The Chinese have done a very good job of utilizing this movement and creating a whole watch industry around this movement. The Chinese also have some very interesting clone movements of their own such as the ST2130 and the PT5000 which are copy's of ETA movements. They are cheap and not hard or expensive to replace if needed. You can have a lot of enjoyment with Chinese watches if you look into it and find out what to buy and maybe own a few tools as well. On the other hand, if you prefer Swiss movements and you can afford it than by all means, enjoy them as well!
