Selling covered calls on a stock trading so deeply below its true valuation is just not worth it. if anything you should be buying calls they're really cheap. At 80/share the options market prices only a Delta 20% chance of getting to $100/share by Jan next year on the 1/17/25 100C. Just $100/share! I think it's closer to 50%. If you want longer date and still under your fair value, the 1/16/26 130C is also a Delta 20% chance of getting to 130/share by Jan 2026. You get a whole year+ to get to 70% of intrinsic value. Again, market says it's 20% chance, I think it's closer to 50%.

Not sure if I want to sell long covered calls on BABA now. This time management seemed really optimistic about future growth (cloud etc.).

For me the problem for long term covered calls is that if you go ITM suddenly for no good reasons (like BIDU recent spike over a self driving car news), you can't get out of the position as you need to buy back the premium for usually more than what you made with the increase in shares. And if you are too much ITM, when approaching expiration, you will get early assignement if the dividends are high. That's why I prefer shorter term (1-2 month max) covered calls. The biggest benefit on long term covered calls is that you receive a big premium right away to be reinvested though.

Thanks Tay. I understand your DCF model accounts for net cash in your valuation. Do you also account for the equity holdings? Like their Ant or AI startup ownership? If not then Baba could be worth well over 200 per ADS.

They issued the debt to get dollars and buyback shares on the US market. The communists don't allow their balance sheet cash to be used overseas.

This company is in my wheelhouse because I am a former tax preparer. H&R Block is hated in the industry. You think their customers are businesses? Their revenue is mostly unsuspecting taxpayers paying way more than they need to for an incredibly simple return. They also generate a lot of money through basically payday loans, where they give needy taxpayers an early refund for a percentage cut. All of this combined with so many other alternatives to do your taxes an IRS sponsored free tax program makes H&R Block uninvestable for me unless severely undervalued.

Devil is in the details here. Quarter ok and more importantly helps setup outperformance soon. Political risk is keeping a cap on this one. However, the CCP is no longer punishing management and one could argue that they are pretty supportive at this point. Political risk in the market's mind is more of the geopolitical genre.

Hey Tay great work. In your model you have Baba at 170. So if management are borrowing money to do repurchases at 80 surely that’s got to be a huge positive for you? Perhaps the delay was getting permissions for offering a convertible bond.
