Enjoyed your video. Looks like you are well prepaired. To me though, thats not just a fire kit, that is a well stocked trading post. I like your choice of knives with the saw as part of your fire kit and the plastic bag. I have always carried a plastic bag to collect tinder in on backpacking trips, there is always plenty of dry tinder even in the rain if you dont wait till the last minute to start looking.

Nice kit. There is no junk all usable items. I know you’re waiting for a few more items which, I have in mine. I have almost exactly the same items in mine, plus a few more. Some of my added items include Hells Fire Clay Tinder. I have a lot more items but, I’m not going to clog up your video with all of them since, you’ve done such a good job putting together a really useful kit. Thanks for the video. The 893

My fire kit consists of fire contents that help start fires. I like to carry this as my EDC. The actual contents in this kit are used to make fires. If you can’t figure out a lighter maybe its time we need to address our friendship. We open this up and what you will notice is the items inside which are used to start fires. If we are still friends then I will show you how to use these fire starting implements to start fires.

That's a lot of really nice, high end goodies, but way too big for my backpack. I just carry an old Coghlan's ferro rod with a small ceramic striker, it's done well for years. Also a Bic lighter in an old pill container, waxed dental rounds, and a few sticks of fatwood. My keychain also has a small ferro rod on it, as well as my knife. Mine's boring and old, but it's never failed to get.a fire lit for me.

Yeah this seems excessive to me. You can even throw a mini bic lighter in the match case if you wanted to take the storm matches too. Those all in one of those super light zip bags if you wan it together and you have a way lighter and more practical kit.

Why do you need all fire starters? Why did you bought cotton arounds ? If you can make your own cotton arounds.i been doing that cotton arounds with candy wax with crayons they will burn 9 minutes longer and hotter .you only need lighter and Ferro rod not matches and Sparks neither .I been carrying only Ferro rod 1" 7 inch and my lighter and my cotton arounds with wax double wax I using them all time they never failed on me doesn't matter if the wood is soaking wet they will catch on fire Plus they are water proof and wind proof the cotton arounds you buy them in a dollar store for a dollar and wax too the crayons I made over 500 fire starters I always carried them

*Why aren't you using the 12 to 18 Volt DC round barrel plug input instead ? Usually, but not ways, those pouch solar panels also are equipped with a 12 to 18 Volt DC barrel plug (5521 or 5525) output. If you plug that straight into the SHERPA 100 AC's input you will get way more current and charging Wattage. 👍*

This was great, thank you for posting this! Alternative IDEA (SO EASY): I am thinking about how to fashion a mod with longer burn time (longer tubes) for camping, SO... I am going to get some EDC / Pill Aluminum air tight containers, which are the correct diameter (will fit) and longer (meaning longer burn time!) and modify them. FYI, You can look up oil lamp burn hours per ounce, or something like that, to get a better idea for modding. I am looking for 8 to 10 hour burn time. My Mod idea..., since these air-tight aluminum case tubes do not have a "wick holder" when you take off the lid, and you don't want to just drill through the lid and then not be able to seal the tube after use (assuming camping) ...is to fashion a "wick holder" to set *inside the the "container tube"*. This can be as crude as fashioning a piece from a tin can for using as the insert. For instance, a long strip of tin folded into a "U" shape (and with some added handiwork) could be inserted into the tube, with the bottom of the "U" near the top, with a wick hole in it NOTE: if you fashion something that makes it airtight, you may run into issues where the oil/fuel-of-choice does not flow up and keep the wick wet. What you do is drill a tiny hole in the top to alleviate the pressure. INSPIRED BY OUR HOST HERE ...thank you so much!

Just watched 3 of your videos and you have the cool stuff just like I do. I hardly ever get to have fires in the spots I go due to burn bans. In my area you can't even get denatured alcohol for the stoves. Have to use heat or pressurized gas. It's a bummer but it is what it is. Thanks for sharing.

My Fire Kit consist of a pair of Reading Glasses for Solar Ignition, and a Key Ring Liquid Match, which gives me both a Spark Ignition Source with the Ferrocerium striker, and flame ignition with a wide variety of common fuels. A Zippo would work too but i already have enough in my pockets. 3 independent sources of ignition with two common items.

Because of the coming micronova, declination is moving much farther, and much faster and so declination information is likely incorrect but there is still a way to recalibrate magnetic declination using the shadow of sticks recording the path of the sun---rotation of the earth has not yet changed. First stick will show East. Mark it with a sharp stick pushed in. After a few minutes you can mark sun shadow travel where the shadow has moved - Push another stick in to mark West. Lay a straight stick from the E mark to the W mark. Geographic north or True North is 90 degrees from the E-W line. With your compass pointing toward True North, note how far off your compass is now. That is your true up-to-date declination. My up-to-date declination is 30 degrees, 15 degrees off from the official declination for my area. More on micronova in my 2nd book, Surviving the Micronova: This Train Is on the Tracks will be available in September.

Good kit but massively overkill. The problem with all you fire lighting gear being in one pouch is when that pouch gets lost. I have a lighter tied to me, other lighters split in different pouches and a ferro rod in my survival kit. You need more tinder. In fact pretty much all I use is wet fire and a lighter.

I love those uberland tinder wicks! Great fire extender. I also keep a Victorinox fieldmaster, bayite 1/2 large ferro rod with Corona tool sharpener as the striker, Exotac titan and matchcap XL with UCO storm matches, pocket bellow, fresnal lens, couple magnesium blocks for tinder, some home made wax impregnated layerd cardboard and sawdust firestarter and zippo with zippo butane torch insert. I also use the maxpedition jumbo pocket pouch but what spare space I have in it I keep a sawyer mini, worksharp field sharpener and a rat tail file for my axe. Got the idea for the sawdust cardboard firestarter looking at the Coghlan fire lighter matches and seems to work pretty darn well but does require a press of some sorts. I used a tin can, it's lid and a c clamp. Cut cardboard to cans diameter, mix the sawdust with melted wax then soak cardboard in wax slurry and layer into can. When filed roughly 75% put metal lid on top and compress using c clamp. Let dry a week under compression then you can separate some and put into round tin such as a round tobacco tin I had laying around. Tear in half or rough up and you got a decent cheap firestarter.
@pesarirooni622 жыл бұрын
great video brother. quick question on the Exotac lighter, you mentioned it doesn't leak. Does that also mean the fuel does not evaporate? I really wanted to buy one of those but I was afraid it'll lose the fluid. So I'm just sticking to BIC lighters. Thanks
@ADVRaven2 жыл бұрын
I have not had to refill mine in 2 years now - I dont use it a lot, but that also means the fuel is not evaporating either. Nothing like a Zippo. I do still have backup fire lighting methods (hah, just a couple!)

Nice! What's the burn time on that burner when used in the UCO?
@ADVRaven2 жыл бұрын
Longest I have run it (with citronella oil) is 4 hours. I do not remember how much of the fuel was left. I keep another full amount of fuel with me as well as a couple of the candles when I am doing the car camp thing. This isnt something I would want to take hiking or backpacking, there is a small hole in the top (under the lid) so it can leak into the lid area.

1:23 And there you have it! "Have lighter, use lighter!" ALL else is merely a back-up, in case something (what??) goes wrong with your Bic. Well, you could use No1 back-up - your second lighter, or third! [Amazon sells a Bic 3-pack for $2,37!). 7:02 Wow! I'm impressed! Two items so seldom seen anywhere - tea lights and a pencil sharpener! Brilliant! 9:47 That knife looks like a Ranger Grip 79 - Felix Immler has a fascinating book out called "The Swiss Army Knife Book - 63 Outdoors Projects". I've just finished reading it and it is quite astonishing what he can do with just that knife! You might want to try it. Maybe you'll keep that knife to where it belongs! 😉😄 Bottom line is like the Boy Scouts motto says, "Be Prepared!" Your set-up does that, in spades! I love it !
@ADVRaven2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. It is a RangerGrip, and I do use it for micro processing, but the bigger stuff I usually grab the belt knife. I love watching Felix Immler's channel, so many tips and tricks and "WFT they can do that" moments. I can guarantee that if I were to take a single knife and kit I would have to fit in my pocket, the SAK would be it.
