First time playing EQ (picked TEEK) and my first char was a wizard. Found myself spending half my time sitting or just meleeing everything because my mana got burned after each kill. Then I tried mage and I can actually play the game without having to constantly wait for my mana to regen.

I'd say play any class first like an enchanter, mage or necro. That way you can solo and easily make money and farm gear to twink your other toons.

i would absolutely love to know why, in every city i've been to so far, there's not guard's giving directions. there's no sign's for anything only a couple estabelishments. there are a billion merchants all selling slightly different variations of the same thing, some things they sell for hundreds of plat! i don't get it, and it's laughable, had to wiki where my trainer was in faydark and still unable to find him because it legit does not have the exact location where he is on there. god, what a sh!T GAME> I HATE TH!S SH!T ADDICTING GAME SO MUCH

This probably comes up later in your walk through but its come up a few times. MOB stands for movable object. All NPCs are MOBs, but not all MOBs are NPCs (boats for instance in rathetear, are considered MOBs, but the boats that take you from zone to zone BB wouldn't be considered a mob) Edit: apparently the boat is considered an NPC... in the game code, but in player lingo it wouldn't be.

The area above Seb was the biggest waste of space. So much they could have done with it. Overall Kunark was over rated and difficult to get anywhere with the starting city being in the center made it a long travel anywhere. So much of the expansion was under utilized like dalnir and even kurns tower could have been better.

GATE, GATE, GATE. Gate alone is +1 tier to all casters, except wizards are still awful. It gets you out of so many bad situations. Saves your life all the time when soloing. Saves a huge amount of travel time. Saves you from getting lost (just gate). It's the most useful spell in the entire game. T1: Necro, Shaman, Druid T2: Mage, Shadowknight, Cleric T3: Paladin, Enchanter, Ranger, Bard, Monk T4: Warrior, Wizard, Rogue Bard & Enchanter are my two favorite classes (shaman close 3rd) and they are powerful in groups & solo, but they require knowledge of nuanced & esoteric mechanics about agro, pathing, timing, resistances, etc to reach full potential. They're Tier 1 classes, but not for new players. If someone happens to gel with the way Bard works, it's could be a great starting class though. Monk is a T3 class. T2 if Iksar, but Iksar is only okay for a new player if already connected with a veteran EQ player so they can ask questions. They're mid soloers, mid at DPS, & their primary value in groups beyond mid DPS is to pull & split pulls, dangerous & nuanced activities ill suited to a new player. Cleric & Mage are both a bit boring, but strong classes. Cleric is super high value to groups & have a lot more utility than people think with clever use of their spells. They can solo undead fairly well too, so they aren't totally reliant on groups. Mage mostly just suffers from doing only two things, nuking & sending in their pet, but the fact they have strong pets & Gate still makes them a great starting class to play up to level 20 or 30 & feel out the game with minimal frustration... see other people playing their classes & try out one of those if they look cool.

I mained a high elf cleric, so I didn't really do anything on that side of the OOT until LGuk. I started a couple months into the game, so by the time I was high enough level, Rubicite was gone, so Unrest was the zone for me. Watching this, I realize I never even knew exactly where CT was, let alone seen inside. Though, I know that was still regularly camped back then, because LGuk had all the regulars from both CT and Unrest, so it was like meeting a whole new group of people.

Quarm FTW. Love what Secrets does for the community. If I wanted to play an experience meant to copy 1999 closely, I'd play P99. Though with the age of Blue and Green, their economies and average player level are arguably are not like it was in 1999.

Usually when I'd do Sol A I'd avoid fighting at the entrance, as a monk you're as safe deeper inside as you are at the entrance but without the hassle of the cramped quarters or the lava. Kill the guys at the entrance, let them run, or ignore them then jump through the hole in the wall and feign death in the next room. From then on just about anywhere is safer than the entrance. A good place to fight if you can't handle Kindle is the Kobold Predator area. Don't forget the named mob with the well right by the predator behind the secret door, I forget its name. Kindle is just beyond him. So many mobs, so few players, great place.
@Malvok23 күн бұрын
My main character, a thousand years ago, was a human monk and I loved Sol A. I spent so many hours camping Kindle, the Lava Elemental, and every other named mob in the area. Great money, and everything except maybe the elemental will forget you after feign death. It's a wonderful zone for monks.

My roommate bought the game the day of commercial release. I played after he went to bed. Bought it the next day, and lost the next 4 years of my life. My issue with the cities is that they are all confusing, split into zones that just make things harder. There is no guild area, no trade area. Play a human in Kelethin, and you're done. You have to run around looking straight down to see the road.

I grew up with this game in its early days. I can't speak for the modern experience, because I haven't played any iteration since the early 2000s. But I took a particular liking to Kunark, and its zones and lore in general. My username that I still use 20+ years later is taken from a random raid boss from the expac that I initially just thought had a cool ring to it. Nowadays, I like to look at it as harkening back to my roots in the hobby. The raid may have sucked, but the memories are precious. Great video, and a nice trip down memory lane!

I only had 3 characters in the 5 years I played EQ. My first character was a de mage, nektulos log memories and commonlands, I really enjoyed it - velious era second character was halfling druid, was a rough start for me, I had to leave rivervale and starting area - luclin era third and main character where I experienced the most raid content on was a gnome Shadowknight, steamfont was good, feybdark, crushbone, etc. - planes era

Kelethin in 1999, you had to use the elevators. You would lag through the elevator and die. Over and over. And more and more corpses would pile up at the bottom, increasing the lag.
