Several years ago, I had a sepsis without knowing the seriousness of it. I was hospitalized for a few days and released after treatment. Until reading this I never give it a thought. Do I need to be concerned anywhere forward?

Corrupt nurse hurt a student with a 2a resident in bed to wheelchair transfer solo. Then blocked the sph internal investigation by not submitting the acc report she gave to the student. Who and how was the nurse suppose to actually report the accident report to? And what was she suppose to report? Acc report only says " she lifted". Very sparse.

Lets talk Sepsis . It is the certain physiological changes we see caused by the infection. Take infection away, no sepsis. The toxins released by the bacteria cause your blood vessels to dilate causing low blood pressure or shock, the toxins also cause your temperature to rise by changing the hypothalamic regulatory system, bacteria make your blood more acidic as the bacteria metabolise nutrients in the blood, causing acidosis in the blood in the form of Co2 . The body tries to compensate by releasing the c02 via increased respiratory rate. The two secondary reaction the body has is the increased breathing and change in heart rate as the low blood pressure is sensed by the body which means poor oxygen delivery or poor perfusion, and ramps up the heart rate to compensate. Then you have to count for the fact of the body’s ability to fight the infection. Hows the immune system? Is it dented by life long smoking or diabetes? Are the blood vessels elastic or have they been hampered by poor eating habits and hypertension. Are the kidneys ok to clear the blood? Or have they been damaged by ibuprofen and poor hydration ? What about the heart? Can it handle this increased volume ? Have you been exercising? Or is the heart sick to begin with. And of course when we get sick everyone lies around in bed complaining of their aches and pains but if you lay in bed, you dont move your lungs allowing for more infections to settle in. Suddenly what started as a simple cut , in an unhealthy individual turns out as bactemia- bacteria in blood then sepsis followed by , secondary infection, pneumonia, acute kidney injury, cardiac heart failure , and we wont get into what it does to your brain, clots to your lungs, liver damage from the medication, and don’t forget the gut. All while we hope your adrenal glands are holding on. So when a person is in sepsis, we understand that it is an infection causing those things. Your body fights back in some ways in others it goes first the ride . Take infection away , you dont have this simple sepsis.

You say ''Take infection away , you dont have this simple sepsis.'' - Do you know how i get rid of the infection? Because if the sepsis is caused by the infection, I have to get rid of it. I got it first, but how do I get rid of it next, to not let it come to a sepsis, or to reverse the sepsis? Thanks.

When my father-in-law was in assisted living my husband went 6 days a week after work. His girlfriend (he outlived a wife and 1st girlfriend) and I took turns showing up separately at unpredictable times 2 to 3 times a week until I was taking care of her. After that I showed up with no predictable schedule 2 to 3 times a week. If there was an issue my husband addressed immediately. It was a reputable facility AND THEY KNEW WE WERE WATCHING AND DOCUMENTING, so he had great care.

However, they wanted to accuse me of trying to preform an abortion...which did not, I repeat, did not happen. A surgeon was finally called in to help me. I had so many blood transfusions to replace my blood loss it was a miracle it worked. Yes, unbelievable!

After having worked in a variety of nursing home settings, I truly feel the wait times for labs to be drawn, minimum 4 hours, turn around time for results another minimum of 4 hours, call into physicians and wait times for delivery of ordered meds to facility minimum another 4hours is unexceptable especially for sepsis in the elderly. Many facilities now have a Pixis dispensary but not all meds are stocked in that machine. Long term care facilities use outside companies for labs, pharmacy, xray etc. So we wait.

Surveyors won’t be able to cite it during an IJ in the state where I used to work. The (State name) Healthcare Association has set policy there since 2011. I worked as an RN LTC (SMQT certified) surveyor and complaint/abuse investigator, then in the office processing surveys, imposing fines, directing surveys and complaint investigations, tracking enforcement cycles, and representing the state in IDRs for 18 years. I saw the decline in our ability to protect our frail and vulnerable people. It’s sickening. CMS needs to clarify and “beef up” this regulation in order for this reg to be cited and retained at IDR, IIDR, hearing, and appeal at both the state and federal level. Thank for your videos and efforts to bring abuse and neglect to light. Not all nursing homes are bad, but the ones that are serious and/or repeat offenders need to be held accountable for causing harm.

Appreciate the insight. As someone who lives MDS I would make a few clarifications. The Discharge MDS is valuable if a loved one is sent to the hospital because it is reflective of their status the day they left the nursing home (good to know if they had a pressure injury before they went to the hospital and what stage it was). Section J is also important to review falls. The nurse signing at Z0500 is not signing for accuracy they are signing for completion. The attestation statement is for those signing at Z0400.

Out of curiosity if a cna is being abused by a resident and the resident is known to be combative to a point of hurting purposefully cna. The patient has let’s say Asperger or something like that. I have always seen a case of residents being abuse but never vise versa of CNA being physically assaulted. Is there any grounds for the CNA to sue. Always had been curious of this scenario. Since I have never heard of it happening. Can you sue your employer or even the family?
@justiceforresidents
@justiceforresidents 2 жыл бұрын
This scenario would potentially be an instance in which the CNA would make a workers' comp claim against the facility if there were injuries from a resident striking the CNA. Could a CNA make bring suit against the resident? Possibly, but good luck with that....
