Cheap locks will fall. Also, out-swinging door is very easy to open. Install a good quality deadbolt in the door. (Schlage). Maybe a security plate to protect the bolt.

I didn't really find it valuable because to be honest I was hoping that he would go explaining his thought process about shooting. He has a different course for post-processing which uses DaVinci so the main course is pretty outdated and doesn't really cover the shooting part or the thought process behind certain shots.

That's waaaaay over built, and will weigh significantly more than it needs to. There are videos of builds using light and strong framing and panels, which are perfectly strong and don't weigh much.

He built the roof to the max legal vehicle height limit so I’m pretty sure it’s allowed. He barely drives it though it’s more of a park up and leave it for months / years kinda tiny home

It cost me about $5000 - $6000 to build but this was a few years ago so probably a bit most expensive today. It is a bit heavy so yeah I recommend using less material!

How are you liking it now? I’m trying to decide between a teardrop/square drop camper but never even thought about building a truck camper. Would definitely save money because I already have a capable truck and wouldn’t have to buy a trailer.

Thats what happens when you have a carpenter help you build a camper....2x4 vs 2x2. I did like the idea of the 4x4 cantilever for the overhang. Thanks for sharing.

Ok what was that bit about the 2x2 vs 4x4s? you said you would have used. Wouldn't it just be lighter to build it all withb the 2x2s, only using 4x4s in main stress paint area? I'm thinking about doing this with my Silverado....
@HondroB3 ай бұрын
That’s exactly what I was trying to say! Using more 2x2 would lighten the load and you can use 2x4 where you need it!
@Threeheadsrk2 ай бұрын
Lol don’t be using no 4x4’s and honestly a 2x4 is a dumb move. This thing weighs way too much

Hi. I am wanting to build this on my toyota tundra, do you have any information to build it. I am currently homeless living in my truck, would you have the plans written out or anything that could help me?

Hey I hope everything is alright! I unfortunately dont have too much I documented the whole build in videos on my channel you can watch them and they start with this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2eYdKGfhJxlq6M&ab_channel=Hondro Also i do have some drawings but honestly my videos will probably help more. hondro.squarespace.com/blog/free-camper-drawings If you have any questions i'm happy to help - to be honest it might be best to tackle something simpler for a fast build but not sure everything you are working with. Godspeed!

Nice DIY build and you are so positive, it is great! The camper has been great for skiing. I like to compare how a Canadian resident handles their heat. I see some others do the wood stove, too, but some also have diesel heater. If I did a build here in the states I'd stay most likely in the southwest, desert during winter and high country during the summer. And it would be full time.

Shoebox! How much would you say it weighs??
@HondroB4 ай бұрын
Hey It weighs about 1200 lbs dry
@Threeheadsrk2 ай бұрын
@@HondroBhave you looked at the sticker on the inside of your trucks door? Guessing it says like 950-1100 lbs. Even without the camper you’d be running at least 300 of that. You’re easily a 1000 pounds over the trucks gvwr lol be careful
@d.c-jr80154 ай бұрын
That truck has way to much weight in it. It's sagging in the rear so bad, I would bet when driving it the steering is really loose. Because the truck was not designed to have weight like that in the bed. I would be curious to see how that truck is now. Unless you did add airbags or load levelers in the rear to compensate for the excessive amount of weight in the bed.
@Threeheadsrk2 ай бұрын
Yeah dude these comments are crazy. Sure he built it with his dad and the memories or whatever but that rear tire barely has clearance. That thing must weigh like 1400 lbs. Easily like 1000 pounds over the gvwr with all the stuff in there
@d.c-jr80154 ай бұрын
No, the Toyota Tacoma is a quarter-ton, light-duty truck. The Tacoma has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 0-6,000 lb (0-2,722 kg), which is in the Class 1 truck category. Half-ton trucks are full-size trucks that can typically carry around 1,000 lb, but most modern half-ton trucks can carry more than 1,000 lb and up to 2,000 lb, depending on how they are equipped.
@d.c-jr80154 ай бұрын
Nobody realizes that this truck is a light duty pick-up. Like a Dodge Dakota or Gmc Canyon. No where near heavy-duty enough to accommodate this build. Unless he put air bags on it or helper springs to help with it being overloaded. Then of course once you step up the suspension or add air bags, now you need to hope the axle will hold up to the extra weight. Regardless of suspension the axle is still holding the weight.
@BrandonWhite-tg8nl9 күн бұрын
I was wondering that cause he said it would be best for a 1 ton then put it on a quarter ton truck.
@d.c-jr80154 ай бұрын
You recommend a 1/ 2 ton or bigger, but your truck isn't even a 1/2 ton. The Toyota Tacoma is a quarter-ton, light-duty truck.

hey i bought it from the same guy who built the woodstove so it should be on his etsy store. it's called a damper and its not actually spring loaded but has a spring on the handle so its not too hot to touch on a hot fire.

Shoebox. this is awesome. Love these builds. Maybe I missed it but how much did this weigh? Tank build. There was another guy's build and the entire video I'm just thinking "that ain't goin' nowhere." lmao. so reinforced. I love it though. I overbuild things but as I'm planning to build a camper for my truck I'm trying to listen to all the "this is beyond strong enough and is much lighter" advice and insight more. But yeah, how much does your build weigh?
@HondroB4 ай бұрын
Awesome really hope you liked it!! Obviously weight will vary a tonne based on what materials you used but its roughly 1200 lbs dry for me i have to do some estimating when i weighed it at the dumb but somewhere around there. Good luck with the build and glad you enjoyed!

I want to build a camper just like this one, I have a few questions. Do you have a framing plan that I can use for my build , also what size is your truck bed and is your truck a 1500 or half ton truck. Thank you in advance for any help

Hey honestly i dont really have the answers for my truck cause i'm away from it right now. I dont have a framing plan for you im sorry - i have really basic drawings of dimensions in the link below but i do have a framing video (part 1) of my camper build and that is probably the best bet for following along for a similar framing build hondro.squarespace.com/blog/free-camper-drawings
