I had a 2015 (2WD) F-Type S for some years. I made 2 mistakes. First I was exuberant leaving work one day with a gas tank nearly empty. I stirred up dirty fuel. This put supercharged gunk through my fuel injectors and KABLOOWEE ! It went to the dealer on a flat bed, where I made my second mistake - they diagnosed 2 broken injectors on 1 bank. It was expensive to strip down and replace the injectors on one side of the V. I picked it up a week later and a day after that, one of the injectors went on the other side too :( The dealer was a hero and agreed to change the injectors on the other side and ate the labor cost. My strong recommendation - if you are working on one side of the V, do it on both while it's accessible. Oh and the third thing I did wrong was putting any old gasoline into the car. Top Tier fuel after that and used a cleaner additive too. If you buy an expensive car, it makes sense to care for it seriously. YES, it is going to cost you a lot of money - what did you expect, you bought an expensive car. P.S. Going to look at a 5yo low mileage SVR later this week. It does have a reassuring report. Plenty of owners - but SVR's do get traded often, because depreciation can be terrifying on SVR's. If that's a bust, I may even have to buy a new 2024 from out of state (in the US).

Hi Colette, The 'Y-Pipe' itself is not an issue on the 2 litre engine as its a part specific to the v6 and v8 engine design. But any coolant pipework sat very close to a heat source and made of plastic can be susceptible to failure. Always check around the engine bay for any signs of coolant leakage when inspecting the vehicle.

No Gearbox tuning on the late model yet, earlier ones are good to go, they take the power just fine though, feel epic on the road.

Are you maps calibrated and extrapolated? as I've heard you use % tuning on maps and decalibrate ie duration, iq2nm ect ect?

Yes, our maps are calibrated to the vehicle and for the customer or specific upgrade packages requirements. Unfortunately, it is quite a bit more complex than just adding a % to the ECU and gaining that % in power and torque. We have thoroughly tested this engine and have been providing our various upgrade packages on this engine since it launched in 2009 on the XKR 5.0sc. Smooth progressive power delivery is the key to reliability. Whilst we unlock the full potential of the engine, we do it in a progressive way which is well within the engines head bolt and gasket capacity. I know from the powertrain developers that the engines have ran above and beyond the 650hp mark without issue in the test cells. We run up to and around the 650hp mark on this generation of engine to maintain reliability whilst still providing a huge improvement in performance, torque and overall driveability.

Hello! This was very informative. I have a 2014 F-Type V6S with 74k miles and a low coolant alert that popped up this week. I now feel very informed to bring it to my local mechanic and let them know the deal to check all of these hoses and the water pump. My question is, how many hours labor should all of those replacements take? I would like to have that background knowledge when I talk to my mechanic about it. Thanks for the info!

It obviously varies from vehicle to vehicle as to what the technician will find when they take the charger off. But to help with your question, to remove and replace the supercharger, you are looking at 6 hours from a trained tech who has done one before. If a first time allow a couple of extra hours. The pipes them selves are around an 1 or 2 to change. Again it depends on how bad the pipes are, if any work has been done before on it, if they are cracked etc.

Have '63 plate 3L and several wks ago it came up 'low coolant'. Checked and required half litre and has not lost any since? Do gaskets under supercharger need replacing when changing pipes? Shame you are so far away!

Hi, We do provide transmission tuning and yes it is ideally suited to this upgrade. The gearbox has internal software limitations of 1300NM max, so we are still well within the limits inside.

Brilliant video! The F-type is my first supercharged car and this is the first video that shows a supercharger in details. A few comments: - I think the car's model year and mileage should've been mentioned - Were the cooling pipes replaced at the same time? Wouldn't it make sense to replace the injectors while the supercharger was out? - this car will need much bigger brakes - it would've been nice to see it driven on the road. I drive a base model, V6 manual all year round on twisty roads. I can't imagine what'd be like driving an RWD car with that much power to be honest but again, really good video. Keep them coming!

Thanks for the kind words. With the current weather conditions it was not practical to record the car on the road. We are waiting for some dry days early next year to hopefully capture some on road footage. Bigger brakes are a great option, but the stock brakes on the car are pretty good. it all depends on what you plan to do with the car. Full blown track day toy, then carbon ceramic are the best option, but we can also provide 2 piece semi floating front discs and uprated rear discs with uprated pads to match. It is a great idea to upgrade coolant pipes when the charger is off and its something we discuss with customers before proceeding with work like this. The big plastic pipes that sit in the V of the engine under with access blocked by the charger are generally good up until around 50k miles. anything over that and we recommend replacing them when the charger is off. As for injectors, unless we see something untoward in the datalogs, we would not opt to change the injectors unless there was a very specific requirement to do so. This really is a monster of a car. Great video, well done. I was wondering how the stock components such as the transmission etc... handle the increased horsepower? What horsepower of the 6 & 8 speed transmission rated for? What is the first component that would fail due to the increase in horsepower?

There isnt really a first component to that will fail due to the horsepower increase. Since we developed the worlds first dual pulley setup on this platform we have been running a this very upgrade on our 6 speed an 8 speed JLR development vehicles and own staff vehicles running tens of thousands of miles without any issues or faults. The 6 speed is good for up to 1100NM we have seen and the 8 speed up to 1300NM. We do not take either platform that high for PEAK torque as even with our huge power and torque increase packages, we still ensure our upgrades are smooth and progressive and within the stock components capabilities. Alternatively, we can of course ship the package to you and it can be installed by yourself or a local professional garage if that's more convenient with our handheld home tuning tool.

It is always best to confirm with Alientech first before doing this. Whilst some protocols are similar at lot of protocols are brand new and as such it may not be compatible to use a kess3 to write a ktag file or vice versa.
