@@sycois no sadly I left Marin county all together. Definitely was my favorite place I ever lived. I didn’t really want to give too many details as to give any details he and his wife’s right to privacy but…. I remember thinking it was so funny that driving a Volvo Ustad Zakary is like a soccer dad here and in India, god of percussion. He really is amazing

If you've seen the complete vid, you'll know that precisely where THIS vid starts, is where Khansahib broke a string, and bids Zakir to "take over" while he changes his sarod string. Zakir then times his solo so that the final sam lands EXACTLY at the point in time when Khansahib resumes his playing. Zakir's astounding sensiivity is as amazing as his brilliant playing!

The highest expressions of art make you confront the dichotomy of analytical knowledge and phenomenological experience. As someone who does not know anything about ‘what’ is being played but who, as everyone else, perceives the profound sound patterns he generates, one asks oneself if the enjoyment of the music would increase if one were a practitioner too. Every time I listen to this recording, and I must be well beyond a thousand now, I notice new things, as if it were an endless source of unfathomable complexity. It has appeared anew in the hundreds of places I have let it wash over me, from train rides between New Delhi and Kanpur to walking in valleys in Himachal, from climbing hills in Maharashtra to cycling along canals in Amsterdam, from bookshops in Paris to museums in Frankfurt. It is at once finite in duration and infinite in scope. I am grateful to be alive if only for these thirty minutes of wonder.
