Where did you get your wood?
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest 5 күн бұрын
I got it from Front Range Timber, a local mill here in the Denver area. They had a product called “skins”, which are the off cut pieces of their dimensional lumber. They were real thin anywhere from 3/16 to 3/8. I got to pick out each piece and the price was really good. I have also done walls like this from Plank and Mill which is a more commercial mill that ships all over. Great product and easy to work with. Not quite as unique as what I got locally, but still a really nice looking product.

Well, good catch on the weight issue, but a pro may, or may not, want to just crank up the springs. Springs are sized for a specific weight. Winding them up won't change that, it just causes a different set of problems.
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest 3 ай бұрын
Very true. My springs were definitely too small. They were able to get one more turn out of them. One finally broke last month. They were 13 years old. And 3 years after adding the extra weight. I upgraded to a bigger and better spring.

@@NeaterNest Happy to hear it. I like to "upsize" springs too when the opportunity arises. I helped a friend change springs on his door, and, if my math is correct, those springs should last 70 years. 😁 So, I'll never change them again. 😉

Neat, thanks! Your thoughts on durability and winterizability during freezing winters?
@NeaterNest

The P trap is removable so it can be drained for the winter. The dirt and ground insulates pretty well. So just the exposed parts are at risk. Could probably install a pipe warmer to prevent freezing too if you wanted to run it all winter.

Thanks for making this video. Although I am pretty handy (veteran auto tech), I didn't want to take chances. I went to get another beer from the fridge in my basement/man cave. The kitchen is directly below the upstairs one. Water was on the floor. Wtf.. so I look for where it came from.. and water drips on my head... coming thru one of the potlights. And the ceiling is starting to bulge. So... yeah. That valve. *so THAT'S why the hardwood in front of the dishwasher is all wavy. Cheers. See? Had I not been drinking I would have not noticed!😂 🍻

I don’t remember which one exactly, but they are all the same on Amazon. The purpose of the video was not so much a how to but more of a creative idea and adapting something to work. Another idea I had was to take apart the soft close and 3D print a longer trigger lever. Maybe I’ll get around to that someday.

You just sell the freedom clamps and they will work universally with the rail and hardware that I purchased with my door?
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest Жыл бұрын
We do sell the Freedom Clamps separate. I wouldn’t say they are universal but they do work with most standard tracks on the market that come with round spacers. We have special instructions for installing them with a 3rd party kit. The one major change are the holes drilled in the door. Freedom Clamps require a little extra space between the door and the track. If you have a door that was pre-drilled for another system then the holes will need to be filled and re-drilled to work with our brackets. So just be aware of that.

Why 1 9/16 ??? Strictly for freedom Clamp??
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest Жыл бұрын
Yes, that’s just for freedom clamp. It’s a process we came up with because people wanted to use their own rollers and with different sizes, we needed a 1 size fits all, so that method works.

@hasher22 Жыл бұрын
Why wasn't the right screw wasn't in the stud but the left screw is in the stud thus it didn't fall out when you jumped on it. Also you can see the previous hole where your product is that has the stud. You're misleading people and this is false advertisement.
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest Жыл бұрын
This is a comparison between a standard kit which is pre-drilled every 16 inches, and our hardware which is adjustable to the stud spacing. Not all studs are 16 inches apart. Especially around doorways. You want to talk about misleading? How about all these standard kits that make it look so easy to install and every lag going into a stud. I guarantee that almost never happens unless you plan for it during construction and add extra blocking. People get them on Amazon and think it’s a simple DIY and turns out not being safe at all. I’ve been to houses where the doors are falling off the track and the lags completely missed the studs. If you have never installed hardware like this before you don’t know you’re about to have a big problem until you get that cheap kit home and start drilling holes in your wall. That’s why people use our system instead.

What’s floor gap? It says height plus floor gap. Is that up to me?
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Typically the floor gap is between 1/2” and 1-inch. If there is carpet, you don’t want it too close because of moisture. And in general you want to allow for any house movement or sometimes floors are not level so you may have a small gap on one side and larger on the other.

Is this able to be used when converting a set of 2 @ 36" swinging french doors to become double bypass so that both doors sit to the right of the opening when opened? And can the hangers be extended so that the sliding bar can be mounted above a transom that sits over the doors?
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. The short answer is that our brackets can be adapted to work in almost any situation. But there are a few things to work around. 1. Extending the hangers. You would need to do this yourself. But you would no longer have jump protection. Something needs to keep the door from jumping off the track in the event of an accident. 2. Double bypass can be done with our hardware but again you have to sacrifice the jump protection for the outside door. In your situation where you would be extending the hangers anyway, this wouldn’t be an issue. Last I would just mention that we have had several customers install the hardware by mounting to the transom beam and they look great. But that may not fit your design idea. Feel free to shoot us an email and I’d be happy to brainstorm other ideas with you.

if you don't address the reason it broke off the same thing will happen again, for example all that insulation you have on that door adds to the weight of the door which you would have to add tension to the springs to compensate for that other wise it will just do the same thing again, especially since your adding more weight to the door... it's all about balance.
@NeaterNest
@NeaterNest 2 жыл бұрын
You’re right Mitch. I had planned to have my garage door guy come out to add tension to the springs after installing the insulation. I have 3 kids so there is a lot of open, close happening and it broke before a tech could come out. I’ll do just about any DIY but I don’t do springs. I eventually did get them adjusted and it’s all working great now.
@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 3 ай бұрын
You're correct on the weight and the springs, but some doors require a special reinforcement bracket to add an opener. Just looking at that brace makes me think that is one of those doors. A lot of doors that don't need the bracket even have holes marked for the standard non-reinforced bracket that comes with openers, so, if you don't see those holes, you may need to buy a bracket.
