DIY Garage Door Frame Repair for under $7

Part of the chassis ripped off my garage door, right where the operator connects. See my clever solution as I repair this thing on camera. Took under an hour and less than $7 to fix.

I purchased a metal stud from Home Depot. It’s usually near the drywall and concrete section of the store. It’s helpful to have tin snips to cut through the metal easily. Good Luck. Also, make sure to have your garage door spring tension adjusted. The reason mine broke was because my springs were too loose and that make the garage door heavier putting more stress on the motor and the lift points. You should be able to lift the door up with 1 hand easily.

if you don't address the reason it broke off the same thing will happen again, for example all that insulation you have on that door adds to the weight of the door which you would have to add tension to the springs to compensate for that other wise it will just do the same thing again, especially since your adding more weight to the door... it's all about balance.

You’re right Mitch. I had planned to have my garage door guy come out to add tension to the springs after installing the insulation. I have 3 kids so there is a lot of open, close happening and it broke before a tech could come out. I’ll do just about any DIY but I don’t do springs. I eventually did get them adjusted and it’s all working great now.
