Good review. I love my Everyday, it's loose and playful off the tail. But, it's not particularly drivey, like you said. It's my go to for waist to shoulder high. I consider it almost a grovelor.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's super interesting. For me, it's almost completely the opposite. I feel like as it doesn't have much inherent speed of it's own, I really need to be on a good wave to get it going. Otherwise I feel like I'm trying to ride a bike whilst holding the front brake 😅 I feel like it's got the outline of a groveller, but has the rocker of a good wave shortboard, which feels really confused to me. Still waiting to get it in some quality surf to see how it goes then!

@@renegadesurftravel I was chatting with a guy at the surf shop the other day who hated it, he also didn't like the lack of drive. Why it works for me I couldn't say. But, I don't find it slow. I tried using large fins to increase the drive but I didn't like that it made the board stiffer. I prefer to keep it loose...I use Kolohe mediums. It just means that I have to keep it in the power section of the wave. But, that's basically my style of surfing anyway.

I really liked your review, as well the other video, where you tell which boards should you take to those places. I appreciate the honesty and, quite frankly, I was hoping that you had some footage of your surfing in good waves with those boards. Have you ever tried epoxy bords on the Maldives and Indo? They fly when it’s small and glassy. This year I am thinking going to Indonesia, I am still no sur which 3 board quiver should I take.

Thanks for the feedback! There are some clips of me surfing the Sharp Eye in the other video, but I don't have any clips of me surfing the Happy Everyday yet unfortunately. I have used epoxy boards in Maldives and Indo, but I prefer PU for a few reasons: - more of a stable construction in hot climates (I have had a couple of epoxies that have delaminated in the heat) - easier to do a DIY repair if I need to, and polyurethane foam is closed cell, which doesn't suck up as much water if you get a ding (compared to polystyrene foam which is open cell and sucks up water like a sponge) - feels good in all conditions (I prefer epoxy in small glassy conditions as you say, but PU just works in everything, so it's one less thing to think about)

Great insight Simon. I’m thinking of the trip in April. I’ll have my FRK+ and the red tiger both 6’4. I’m debating on what to bring on my 3rd board. I have the flow stick 6’8 but thinking it might be abit big as would like to get the db travel bag 6’6 only but it is an easy rider as you put it. But having the two boards mentioned at 6’4 is probably slightly bigger for quite a few but I went with something with abit more volume. Any advise would be welcomed. As the red tiger is different from the frk I was thinking of getting frk swallow. In your opinion do u think they are all to similar. U know a lot more than me and have seen my surfing. I know it might be a dumb question 😅but
@renegadesurftravel
@renegadesurftravel 13 күн бұрын
Hey Trev, good question! For a level 3 surfer, I would say these boards are all going to feel quite similar and cover the same sort of wave range. For a pro, sure, they're going to feel the differences. But for the average Joe, I think you're going to want to have more differentiation in your quiver. All 3 of my boards here are completely different, have a completely different job and cover a different set of conditions. If you went with the FRK swallow, you would essentially just have 3 performance shortboards designed for pretty much the same conditions. All great boards, but not much range! I think the Flow Stik would be a much better choice for your 3rd board in this situation.

Nice review! I want to get the I72 and am kind in doubt about the size. I am 94kg and 6’6 in height and am considering a 6’2 around 35/36 liters. But if u say the board feels smaller maybe I should go up a bit. What’s your opinion?

Would you say people put too much emphasis on trying to cave that back knee in rather than rotating the hips? I feel like once you have rotated your shoulder and hips, the back knee feels in a much better and more natural position to sort of face more forward.
@renegadesurftravel
@renegadesurftravel 16 күн бұрын
Yes absolutely. That's exactly what I was trying to say at 6:21 - that if you rotate the hips and shoulders to face forward, the back knee will 'tuck' by default once you compress. Perhaps I didn't articulate this very well, so thanks for the question!

@renegadesurftravel 18 күн бұрын
@@vincentkr3w yes, absolutely! I was actually going to go into more depth on this but the video was getting super long - so perhaps this will be it's own video in the future. But yes, to an extent you're right - the best surfers in the world are moving their feet a lot more than people think. However, there are a lot of surfers who NEVER find the back of the tailpad - so this tip is really aimed at them. If you want to turn the surfboard more easily, more radically and with more control, you need that back foot against the block - especially on a thruster 🙌

@@giorgiofavillini5643 We can't write the name of the spot on here, sadly! The crowd depends on many factors, but generally if there is swell and light winds it+s possible to surf alone or with one other boat. The more spots working, the more spread out the crowd is. We surfed alone around 50% of sessions during the 10-days above. We always aim to surf with as little crowd as possible and will generally dodge the most famous breaks in favour of quieter, lesser-known waves.
