Always been wary of modern adaptations of operas but this is really really good

Cue the derisive comments from the opera claque (see below)--ho hum. I for one appreciate any artistic attempt to think, work and create outside the box. After all, that is what Wagner did in the first place. Not every attempt is a hit, and many are indeed misses, but every genuine effort is to be applauded. Armchair critics, begone--off to Nibelheim with you!

It's the brave singers who I feel bad for. But they signed a contract and pretty much have to do the silky stuff asked of them. Ben Hepner refused to do the stylized movement the Lohengrin director gave him. It interfered with his voice production. But he stayed and fulfilled his obligations. It seems like a director should read the libretto before making singer wear Rat heads.

Dame Gwenth's tendency to sing sharp and flat is unfortunately evident here. Just listen to that ghastly high note at 1.53. She must have thought it would be fun to sing this role, but the audience is supposed to be the one having fun.

Devined! I was once told. The more we miss somebody the one has already fulfilled the mission. Some are ready early and we miss them and others are never ready and soon forgotten. I really miss Hvorostovsky. and he is still making me warm in mind. RIP. from Bill The Swede.

The casting is ridiculous. I get it that we have to suspend disbelief, but Villazon is tiny for a man. And Graham is AN AMAZON. I've met her in person. And Villazon is my same size. That a man of 5 feet 7 would be smitten with a woman over 6 feet looks really crazy onstage, especially with heels. And the role is a bit too large for her sweet timbre.

Strange casting of Wotan and Brünnhilde. Can't say I like such a bright sounding Wotan and der Damerau is out of her depth and often sings out of tune
