Of ALL ELO's songs, this is definitely one I would absolutely love to listen to sans the vocals - the music track is amazing and those strings are out of this world!

Every single song is a masterpiece. The fact that people don’t talk about Electric Light Orchestra more absolutely baffles me. The absolute art that goes into every detail of their songs should be something all musicians should take note from.

I don’t know which came first, the CHICKEN or the EGG… but this is eerily similar to that Monty Python sketch where Micheal Palin (Horace Wimp) goes to a marriage counselor (Eric Idle) to save his marriage - only to discover his wife and the counselor are having an affair (and right in front of him, I might add) - and when he’s told to leave the office (so they can continue having their blatant affair) it’s Horace’s conscience, or perhaps it’s God (voiced by John Cleese) who tries to prompt him to be a man… go back in there and pull your finger out!! He does - although IMMEDIATELY he’s told to GO AWAY again (which of course he does) and the sketch ends with a giant 30 ton weight dropping on him. God has had enough. End of sketch.

It’s one of my all-time favorite tracks from one of my all-time favorite albums-memories of my childhood. However the video always grated on me somewhat because it fails to do justice to Kelly Groucutt’s extraordinary lead vocal-Lynne shares vocal duties with him on this track (as he did many others), but Groucutt opens the song and gives it it’s heart, at least to me. And it’s Kelly who is responsible for all the soaring operatic vocals in so many of ELO’s greatest tracks. That’s him adding thrilling vocal layers to the celestial “Shine a Little Love”. A brilliant vocalist, bassist and musician who never received the renown he deserved, until his untimely death. R.I.P.

Back in the early 80s in a cul-de-sac with about 16 houses, 2 of my friends, we would play ELO albums loud to the whole street and most of the households would listen and sing along with us…except the Campbells and the Griffins 3 doors up….older couples….we couldn’t wait for the next album to come out…How time has flown. 😢😢😊
