It was a stunning album and criminally underrated. And this video doesn’t do justice to Kelly Groucutt’s heartbreaking lead vocal-I love Jeff Lynne from this period, but it’s a travesty to have him miming to Kelly’s beautiful voice. That’s also Kelly adding all those dazzling operatic vocals to “Shine A Little Love”. He was a brilliant vocalist, bassist and musician who died way too soon.

It’s one of my all-time favorite tracks from one of my all-time favorite albums-memories of my childhood. However the video always grated on me somewhat because it fails to do justice to Kelly Groucutt’s extraordinary lead vocal-Lynne shares vocal duties with him on this track (as he did many others), but Groucutt opens the song and gives it it’s heart, at least to me. And it’s Kelly who is responsible for all the soaring operatic vocals in so many of ELO’s greatest tracks. That’s him adding thrilling vocal layers to the celestial “Shine a Little Love”. A brilliant vocalist, bassist and musician who never received the renown he deserved, until his untimely death. R.I.P.

Please stop comparing ELO to the Beatles, Jeffrey Lynne (from Birmingham) was indeed a very close friend of Harrison´s, yet his arranging skills were, if firstly inspired by the ¨Magical Mystery Tour¨ much more complex, richer, wide open souled and (most importantly) self inspired in the vain of 70´s perfect balance of talent/exploration and technical advances: a whole genre on its own and that is his greatest legacy.

Very close to sounding like a "lost" Beatles song. The arrangement, the eccentric approach, the masterful orchestration, the voices in unison, the word imagery, church bells, John Lennon craziness mixed equally with a melodic Paul McCartney attack from the "I Am the Walrus," "Strawberry Fields Forever," era. All courtesy of Jeff Lynne who learned his lesson well and had the musicians to make it a reality.

Someone once told me that ELO basically used "I Am The Walrus," as the source of all their material. Not sure I totally agree, but I LOVE this band, they were part of the soundtrack of my youth and Jeff Lynne stamped this sound all over the artists he worked with as a producer in the 80s from Olivia Newton John, through Dave Edmunds, to nearly every member of The Travelling Wilbury's, including and most importantly, Roy Orbison's later material..
