I thought they sounded pretty similar before the jam sessions but during the jam sessions i may have actually liked the way the Yamaha and the fender sounded just a pinch more. This was the Trem that turned me on to Trem , as well as Source Audio products. This being an early release, both the Ultra Wave and True Spring offer more options, but this is still a solid affordable intro into the brand.Great series on the effect, thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. The Rivolta necks are the bomb; an underated brand.
@PJandtheBeard21 сағат бұрын
Thanks! That Rivolta is a great guitar. I am a fan of source audio too. I liked their Spectrum envelope filter we featured in our Shakedown Sound series and I have had the Nemesis Delay on my board forever. Great stuff!

Guys in comments … please . Just stop with his unreasonable rave about SE. SE stand for student edition and it will always be good entry but… Core have completely different quality in frequenc spectrum just because pups at starting point. Built quality: tuners, pups , finish will always be better for US. 1 good guitar is always better than 10 average.
@PJandtheBeard6 күн бұрын
Whose unreasonable rave? I just watched our final thoughts again, and I don't see that at all. In fact, I think we both give the nod to the core. Don't get me wrong, all the SE's we have tried have been really good. The Paul's guitar SE stands out to me as exceptional. So, where I agree that the core PRS stuff is in another class, I don't think the SE stuff is relegated to just an entry level student edition guitar. They are definitely quality instruments in their own right.

I have seen this pedal do great garcia tones. However your video here hits none of them. With a jerry guitar and name like shakedown i was expecting better. Not being mean.
@PJandtheBeard6 күн бұрын
I tell you what, I really struggle to get a good Jerry tone out of the Eastman with an envelope filter. At least one that is good to my ear. I think part of that is the built in preamp and the amp we are using. Even with it all the way down it drives the 22 - 40 watt amps we are using too hard. I think it would better with a higher wattage amp. In this case, I struggled with the pedal too. It's probably in there, but I really had a hard time finding it as you pointed out. To me, this wouldn't be my go to for a Jerry sound. The pedal does some cool things, but for me the dead thing wasn't it's strong point. Of course, the Jerry tone in my head might differ from yours, but I do agree with you in this case. I didn't even have to go back and listed to the video. I remember feeling the same way when we recorded it. We have done a lot of envelope filters in this series. You can see them all here, maybe I got closer in another video... :) pjandthebeard.com/shakedown-sound-series

@PJandtheBeard6 күн бұрын
It's funny, I felt that the SE pickups sounded better on the recording in many ways. That said, having played both live I would go with the core SAS every time. Part of it could just be my long association with that guitar, but it could also be that brighter isn't always the answer.

Sire S7 hands down, their pickups sound better too! The Yamaha is very muddy in the mid-range (almost unusable). Fender I gave up on a long time ago, their frets may as well be razor blades, for such a high priced guitar it's not acceptable! So much so I sold ALL my Fenders and kept only a 1993 MIJ Fender Tele that was done right.
@PJandtheBeard21 сағат бұрын
We were really surprised by the Sire. What a nice guitar.
@joejustjoe392615 күн бұрын
Very nice demo. They both have nice voicing and though they do sound different sonically, the SAS mids are more scooped giving it a brighter tone, imo. For PRS to revisit this guitar in the SE series for half the price-I will crank the mids on my rig and be very happy with the price point. Is the SE series a precision instrument? nah, not really. Can I get past the SE Indonesia thing-we we shall see-as I just ordered one today. Thanks again guys-good stuff.

This SE did not disappoint. I can get so many tones nailed on this axe. Any southern rock/ country stuff, Johnny Winter, Steely Dan (debut), and Queen have been the most profound so far. Although the blues tones are nice, this guitar loves to be cranked up and wake the dead. Something I perdonally noticed when it comes to the middle pup. As I palm the tailpiece my pick rubs over the top of that pup, forcing me to change my position a bit. I lowered it and that helped a bunch. It’s a drop dead gorgeous guitar, stays in tune, has hot pups, no fret sprout, and the frets are level. I did have to tighten the jack as the outside nut came loose. Came in with a decent setup that I have tweaked a bit. There is a ton of expression to be had depending on what you want it to do. I ordered two and kept the best one. It truly is the swiss army knife of tones in one guitar. Rock on, guys! Thx for the nudge…👊🏼

I have tried an original Direct Drive and thought it had a little too much gain at lower settings. I much preferred the original Barber LTD which I kept. I'm curious if the DD V4, is a little more usable than the original.
@PJandtheBeard20 сағат бұрын
Sorry for the slow response. I would say the DD V4 definitely is since it has a three way toggle switch to switch between high gain, ultra-dynamic, and low gain settings. Dave is so good at explaining this stuff and making sure you understand what each pedal will give you with the gear you're using. Definitely worth reaching out to him and talking about it.

I added a modulation daughterboard to the delay which adds switchable modulation with a rate and depth control and swichable waves forms square triangle etc. Plus they are top mounted which allows for a neat pedalboard.

I remember when these Specials could be purchased used for around $200 to $275 around Atlanta, Ga. in or around 1970. I also remember thinking " Man I wouldn't have one at that kind of pricing". I also was remembering with the nicer hard case there was no difference if they had the hard case or the soft "Alligator" style". I was at the University of Georgia and Tuition was $175. 00 per quarter. Wow, I thought dang I could get a used "Standard" for $600.00 to $ 700.00. Now I am thinking what those Sunburst Standards are going for, that ridiculous pricing used at well etc. etc. $3,500-$4500. Wow, dang I went to Arlington Guitar show determined to purchase one. Well for some stupid reason I wanted a 57 Gold-top that were almost the same price at $3,200-$3,500 (wonderful condition). Anyway, I had just passed a chance to buy a "as new" Cherry Sunburst 1960 Les Paul from an old farmer and his wife for $3,500. Here is the deal. That guitar was mint mint mint and beautiful with perfect dye bleeding into the pin-striped figured maple and a neck to die for. I purchased several of those specials over the next 2-4 years. Now, I have nothing from that era, NOTHING!!!!. So what is the point. You guys and girls know what I am talking about so I am not going there again. I will say this; WHAT A FOOL I WAS !!. Even my Father explained to me why I should buy one of those beautiful Les Paul's. WHAT A FOOL I WAS !!! PS: Anybody who attended that show will remember the Aerosmith's famous Les Paul sitting at the front on a table for sale at $4,500. Now this is the real deal. I was not a FOOL, I was an absolute idiot.The last group of guys are getting quite old now and I do believe there will be one more wave of these guitars coming up for sale. So, hold on and get what you really want. Seemingly they will seem high in price. However, grab one and get a taste of it. You will not regret it. I promise!. Thanks for your time! Oh, I thought those Specials were just a piece of slab wood.All those guys will be way up in there 80's now.
