Very helpful info, thank you. One thing that you may want to consider, is that there is an open F shape. First finger on E and B strings first fret; second finger G string second fret; and third finger D string third fret.

My favorite class in high school was music theory. It helped me understand how music is constructed. That know-how has guided me for the last 56 years to an incredibly rich understanding and enjoyment of all kinds of music. Now at age 72 I am learning finger style guitar picking and that solid base in music theory is guiding my finger style technique. Your explanation of CAGED is superb, simple, and your demo was clear and concise. It opens doors to playing better guitar. Thanks so much for creating this video. I'm a fan.

If there was a Novel Prize for explaining the CAGED system in the most simple and best way, this guys would have won the Nobel Prize!!! I can read sheet music and play classical fluently but somehow CAGED system always eluded me, this is the only video on the planet when it’s explained in the best, systematic and logical way that actually makes sense 🙏

Great question, Jeremy! For the C and A shapes (5 strings) - G and E shapes (6 strings) - D shape (4 strings)

I've played on and off for 30 years. Mostly off. I have never even heard of the caged system until now. It was all music theory and memorization. This makes sense and it's making playing guitar fun.

I was able to understand the CAGED system by watching many videos and it took time. Your video was able pull off the essence of it in 17 minutes. Very well communicated. Thanks. Had I seen this video as the first video, I would have saved a lot of time.

Somewhere around 9:00 my head started to explode. Now, I have played for many years, mostly self taught, and know the different chord shapes up and down the fretboard. I have never used the term triad, though I of coarse knew of it. This video eventually gets you where are going, but with all the colors, and thick string/thin string, and this is the same as that thing, it got to be overwhelming to watch.
@simonbradley69216 күн бұрын
The thing I don't get about this is that many of the shapes are so uncomfortable as to be barely worth knowing. eg open G shape barred to any other chord
@LearningGuitarSecrets3 күн бұрын
You can break those shapes into smaller chunks👍 Use 3 or 4 strings for the uncomfortable ones🙂

It kind of makes sense, good job at simplifying it. So the CAGED system is a sequence of chord shapes in which you can play any major note?
@LearningGuitarSecrets6 күн бұрын
Yes! Any major chord. 3 of those chord shapes ( A E D ) can be turned into minors too🤗
@matthewbradley94305 күн бұрын
Brilliant, I’ve been trying to understand this for ages and you did it in 17mins 😊AED into minors sounds interesting…

Thank you for this very clear explanation. I do have one question though. What is the reason for the CAGED sequence rather than another one? Do they connect the same chord down the frets?

Biggest load of bollocks on learning the fretboard I have ever heard. The best way to learn the fret board is to memorise every note on the fretboard: 6x12=72. Then you have to learn the relative interval from each note: R, b3, 3, P4, P5, 6, b7, 7, 9 and 13. I’m sorry to have to say that there is no easy system that can substitute for visual and muscle memory.

There is one other option for finding out what string it is. It's knowing how your guitar is tuned on the open strings. Standard tuning is EADGBE. So the 4th string going down or 3rd going up would be the G string. I'm not talking about underwear either lol. His way works as well, however I like the way I come to the conclusion. It really doesn't matter how you get the answer as long as it's the correct answer.
