If Nintendo set the standard and uses the same standard as the past, how are they backwards? Everyone else chose to deviate from the standard set before. If everyone else is choosing to map their buttons differently, how is Nintendo wrong?

FYI for anyone who doesn't know. The switch now has fully remappable buttons on a system level in the options menu. You can even save, I think 5 different layouts & name them whatever you want.

It's a bit misleading to say that the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller was the moment when Nintendo returned to its classic button layout. When Nintendo were experimenting with new controller layouts for the N64, GCN, and Wii, the handhelds retained that classic button layout, and the Wii Classic Controller also kept the classic layout. Heck even the N64 and GCN somewhat retained the classic layout when it came to specifically A and B, with A on the right and B on the left for N64 (although B was above A in this instance), and A being to the right of and above of B on GCN (with X and Y being placed differently). The Wii U GamePad even fully retained the classic Nintendo button layout (so X, A, B, and Y were placed exactly like the SNES, DS, and 3DS) which meant that for the eight generation of consoles, that button layout was consistent across both home and handheld consoles of Nintendo. So Nintendo didn't "return" to their classic button layout with the Switch, they just kept it consistent with most of their prior consoles (G&W, NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, Wii Classic Controller, 3DS, Wii U, and to a certian extend even N64 and GCN). If Nintendo reversed their button layout like with Sony's PlayStation in the West or Microsoft's XBOX, it would confuse their player base who have been accustomed to this layout for over 40 years. So Nintendo never "reversed" their button layout with A and B, they just kept it consistent

See this is an interesting but kind of gaslighting perspective to say N64 and GC layouts weren't changed. The actual ergonomics were hugely changed, and I think that's because they knew the SNES layout was a mistake! Why the DS brought it back I'll never understand, but its usage on the Wii makes sense, given the purpose of the Classic Controller. But even in that SNES era, they made the Super Gameboy and did something modern Nintendo would never dare: they put mapped the A button to B and the B button to Y. Once again, they knew how it should be. I wish they would just do it, because to this day no one is doing it right.

It’s always hilarious to hear takes claiming Nintendo is the odd one out, when they created and popularized how the modern GamePad worked in the first place. Blame the lack of ingenuity of other platforms, because they couldn’t think of a better solution to avoid patent infringement 😂

I think we may dislike people playing God without realizing it. Not that we don't respect medicine, but everything we know about anatomy is pretty fresh. We as humans aren't really used to knowing what's going on inside our meat suit, so it's only natural that some of us feel uneasy about all this info

The most fun I had in league was when I duo'd with my husband and we both took characters with surpression (Warwhick/Malz). Even when we lost, we had fun because we could generally beat any hypercarry situation. Though it was often the case that the other team throws away a likely win while their carry is down, so our bs was really effective for how simple it was.

The reminder to becareful in my head is a little fun fact that if, for whatever reason, you fall from standing height and hit your head on the ground, you may very well just die. Like you will be lucky to come out of it with a minor concussion. Just like tripping or whatever and like you just hit your head on the ground, not even an object like a curb, corner table, or whatever, just the ground. Our own design is potentially lethal because we stand upright and at a height that is lethal to our own heads... trips me out.

I think this is actually what makes magic beautiful. The game does appeal to different psychographic profiles in different ways, but tries to cater to them. I personally love the variance and social aspects of commander, but i understand everything you say here. I do find your comments about variance in deck building like in draft vs variance in play slightly contradictory because I think commander is the perfect format for variance of archetypes, but I still understand it. Very interesting video though I think the original statement is definitely a bit controversial in the wider community

This is getting out of hand. When I play game ported to PC from xbox and it says press A, I am confused, since I use knock-off ps style controller, that even the shapes are not what they should be. And it is fatal when I don't have controller at all. Pressing keyboard button A doesn't cut it.

I love how Nintendo fanboys immediately came to the video in defense of Nintendo ways for the controllers. it doesn't freaking matter whose right or reverse. if atari or Nintendo normalized the current traditional controllers layout, then Sony also normalized the twin sticks idea that became the standard today, in the end everyone's win! it doesn't matter, I grew up with the Playstation controllers and because of the brain memory of where is each button is without looking at the controller I just have no problem at all when holding an Xbox, Nintendo or PC third party controllers they all function the same especially on multiplatforms, meaning if I for an example played Sonic X Shadow Generation across ps5, ps4, XSX/Xbox One or even freaking Steam Deck the button layout is exactly the same without looking down at the controllers etc. also fun fact: due to the brain memory, most people who got used on playing rhythm games on Sony's platforms, when they went playing them on the switch they got confused and ask for a patch to adds Playstation controller button symbols as an optional feature, few games did that like the Hatsune Miku series on the switch. the only time I got an odd feeling while holding a controller was the Xbox 360's. because I got used to the Playstation controllers both sticks in the bottom, but I got adjusted to it immediately in a blinks of an eye.

I think TRUE MOBA's like LOL, Smite, and too an extent, Overwatch all have that 'problem' , bit it's not a problem. It just comes with the territory. i think competitive games are 'competitive' because the game asks, and even DEMANDS a higher skill and willingness too learn "the tough way" ; thus, of course , appeals too hardcore gamers who want to true learn a game that you almost HAVE to get better. Weither that be asking OTHERS who came before you for advice, trying new tactics/builds, or just trying to get better with ever life. Not like Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Fallout, and such where while there certainly IS a 'skill' too parts, BUT you don't have to get better at the game too enjoy them. These 'casual' games usually ask ; ..what do YOU want to do?" Giving much more control, and agency too the player. Rather than Competitive Mobas like League , where few things are in your control. Sorry, I just enjoy spewing my thoughts onto digital paper sometimes :0
