I don’t play Pokémon competitively, but the number of people that seem to think that paying to win should be the standard in places I’m tangential to boggles my mind. What happened to the “pay to win bad” mindset people used to have? Can we bring back the idea that “having a bigger wallet” shouldn’t be a factor in these games?
@PumpkinHoard
@PumpkinHoard Ай бұрын
The people willing to "pay to win" often muscle others out of the competition because they paid and perform better as a result. Get enough people like that and they become the majority, the norm. Very hard to remove once they are entrenched.

Pokémon Home data. The way it gets generated is proprietary, and in many cases can be hard to replicate for certain event mons.

We can, most people just don't have acces to the tools. The easiest slam dunks are Met Level, Location and Date, then any other data that the pokemon would have like Tera Type or Weather Specific marks.

We absolutely can check, but it requires third party tools outside of the game itself, which is the problem. If you played a completely legitimate game on your end, but happened to receive a hacked mon in a wonder trade that you eventually raised up to be on your team, you're probably not going to think about the possibility of there being a hack that would necessitate you going out of your way to check. And even if you did think to double check ahead of time, now what do you do? Drop everything and spend every waking moment trying to breed/catch/train the Pokemon back up from scratch before the tournament starts? All because some other guy put a hacked shiny in their game years ago that happened to wind up with you? It's a ridiculous rule. If the pokemon is legal in the format, and has legal stats and moves, there shouldn't be a problem. Even outside of accidental edge cases caused by trades, I think it places an undue burden on players to have to raise their entire team from scratch every single time. I do understand the ideal behind it, but it's just not practical if players want to have a life outside of the game.

Most of the time you can tell by the location where the pokemon was captured.

And then on top of that Pokemon SV aren't even perfect when it does come to maximum Pokemon stats, aka the opposite of that when needed. Trick Room is a straetgy around a move that reverses turn order, meaning for Pokemon you specifically want in Trick Room, you need minimum speed. Thats a 1/32 chance for a 0 Speed IV, oh wait there's Pokemon that you can't breed for 0-Speed that also are once per save encounters, so they get the 3 perfect IVs minimum, so thats a 50% chance to even have that 1/32, oh wait in SV's DLC they added a Pokemon who wants to in some cases run 0 speed and 0 ATK because the move Foul Play exists. That's two stats that have to not be 31 to then both have a 1/32 chance to be 0. Aka Bloodmoon Ursaluna. And if you think thats bad, then add that one of the Pokemon thats close to this bad is a Pokemon from a previous game's DLC. So in total that's a $90 Pokemon that you also have to playthrough a whole game to get. Oh wait what if you wanted certain other Pokemon, like Sneasler for the current regulation, $60 Legends Arceus AND you have to play through it and catch a Hisuian Sneasel and evolve it. And then there's Pokemon that are best obtained in way older games because they are annoying to get on switch with perfect stats, like Cresselia being best IN POKEMON BLACK AND WHITE 2 BECAUSE NO PERFECT IVS YET. WHY IS THAT OK. AND BEING ABLE TO TRANSFER POKEMON FROM THE 3DS, WHICH IS A SEPEEATE SYSTEM BTW, IS LOCKED BEHIND HAVING DOWNLOADED ONTO IT POKEMON BANK AND POKETRANSPORTER PRIOR TO THE eShop SHUTDOWN (R.I.P 3Ds and WiiU eShops) OVER A YEAR AGO. ISN'T THIS A BIT REDICLOUS? BOTH MONEY AND TIME WISE? THIS ISN'T EVEN FOR THE PART OF THE GAME YOU NEED TO GET GOOD AT... THE ACTUAL BATTLING. WHY IS THIS OK As you can see, I'm clearly someone passionate about this. Also I've actually gotten Pokemon to compete with. I'm not even a top level player, this is dumb. I'm 19 and unemployed, I don't have anything else to do. What about those with 9-5 jobs? Or School? Or College?

This is downright frown upon, considering one of the first things introduced in now is wonder trade. I know that lvl 1 shiny mewtwo is a hack pokemon, but how the heck would i know if my wonder traded lvl 5 charmander with bad stats is also hack. Pokemon has stated in the past that even parents from breeded pokemon can and will make offspring hack too.
@AgentSapphire
@AgentSapphire Ай бұрын
@dixienevermore6870 I don't think offspring are considered hacked. One of the most common thing people do with hacked pomemon with perfect stats is breed them. The hack flagging isn't that advanced. And it really shouldn't be. Little Timmy who just got his favorite pokemon in a trade should never be punished.

The solution is to do the Showdown thing and for The Pokemon Company to hand you the team you build for them. Especially because they take older games and the ability to get pokemon from older games away. Not to mention the work. Think about what a headache it is if you want to hunt a good Enamorous. What you have to go through to get one. Its 10 hours per attempt in Legends. Maybe host two different kinds of tournaments. Make the big official one a tournament where mons are provided but there can be plenty of others where you bring your own.
@TheDeathmail
@TheDeathmail Ай бұрын
The issue is that Pokemon is a single player game first and the competition is surrounding that game. Your idea would be better if Pokemon was a competitive game, but it's not. It's a single player game with the team you built. Also, you don't need to hunt a good Enamorus, because EV & IV training are kinda easier now....

There's no genuine reason to disallow hacked Pokémon. So long as a Pokémon has the right stats and a legal movepool, then it'll be perfectly fine. The only reason this is a rule is because Nintendo hates hacking

Yeah but a Japanese company is gonna handle it with Japanese law. Even then it's against the terms and conditions so "legal" or not, if it's hacked then it's illegal and breaks terms of service.

There's also that pokemon bred from hacked pokemon count as hacked pokemon, even if they are otherwise 100% legitimate. And beyond what you pointed out, if a pokemon was genned with entirely legitimate stats and moves, why would it not be considered legitimate.

Honestly, might as well just organize local meet-ups and do competitive stuff with a small group of friends who still have older gen games. Pretty sure that you can still use a 3DS or DS to wirelessly connect to other systems on a locally because you don't need WI-FI to do that. Even if it's not feasible, it at least removes some of the pay-to-win aspects and it's probably more fun that way. Yeah, breeding for good stats and moves can be a pain in older games. But honestly, if it's in a small local group then good stats in specific areas might work.

All I'm hearing is the largest grossing media franchise can't somehow check for hacks in game and set off a flag when it's likely easy to flag hacked Pokémon. Then again it's Gamefreak, it wouldn't be bade code that just lags the game even more.

If you dont know the source, Then dont take the risk Especially in modern its so easy to get a properly trained mon Very few outliers Its the Trainers/users responsibility to make sure its not hacked Personally I dont use Traded mon Also think the "expenses" are a sad excuse 2 full games every 3~4 years Possibly 60 for DLC total per Gen (Even taking into acount a new console every few years) Thats still hardly any monetary investment compared to any other competitive sport/activity The Biggest investment is Time, And if you arn't willing to Invest the time, don't do the Crime

@AusSP
@AusSP Ай бұрын
Well... No actually. There's another comment that notes how if you want to use a Trick Room strat, you need 0 Speed IV, and there's no way to do that within the game without a ton of luck. There's Hyper Training for maximum, but no way to minimum. Before SM, the sheer time investment between breeding a 6 perfect IV pokemon and hacking one was insane, and getting a Trick Room Pokemon that was otherwise perfect was even worse. To be even vaguely competitive-viable, perfect stats were required. Which is why Hyper Training got added. It was an actual requirement to lower the barrier for entry. Obviously, many competitive players really are buying both copies of every game, but that's besides the point. It should be open and available to anyone, even kids.
@anjuju2
@anjuju2 Ай бұрын
@AusSP just breed for the IV easy enough, They had big Ditto 5IV+ event with 0Spd IV easily accessible Destiny Knot (+Everstone) Take half an hour to pop a few Eggs Pick the uns with the stats (+nature) you need Yeah it doesnt cover 100% of all mon But thats again very nitpicky "But think about the Kids" Think about the kids and all the other ppl that get outcompeted because a few Adults can't play a game without cheating
@anjuju2
@anjuju2 Ай бұрын
PS the pasts long gone And even then there were plenty of ways to maximize chances for good stats. And if you do it right, it snowballs easily, from adjacent Egg-groups, right into future games Most mon dont even need 6IV Either Sp.or Physical covers 95%
@nicholaslanze6963
@nicholaslanze6963 Ай бұрын
People out here acting like catching anything and training it up is so difficult anymore. There is no reason to hack a pokemon when we can change the nature and max out IV's of any pokemon. In the cases you want min stats, put the effort into finding the right pokeon until there is an option to reduce IV's. If they've given us all these tools to train up pokemon and people still hack them, it's clearly because they want to hack over be legitimate.

While hacking is against the rules obviously, the hacked mons do not differ from the ones you get in game. They are literally the same data, otherwise the game would not recognize them or prevent you from using them online.

1. Some pokemon with specific abilties and/or moves are *particularly* hard to get bcs they were event exclusive. 2. Would you rather spend 4 hours building a team, testing it, adjusting it, put it against multiple situations, against multiple opponents, or would you rather mindlessly grind for that same amount of time just for a *chance* of getting one mon you need. 3. Not everyone can afford to spend hours to build a team from scratch. 4. Not everyone can afford to buy every pokemon game and console to access every mon.
