I see allot of hate. Dude was doing stuff other players where not that's why the goalies look drunk, lol. He changed the game goalies, and the defense had to improve.

That move at 4:24 that he puts on the Colorado defenseman, whoa was that ever slick!

Gretzky’s skills i think sometimes get underrated. His slapshot was REALLY accurate. He could pick corners, especially high on the glove side, with it quite often. His quickness and overall agility on his skates should get more respect too. He won a lot of races to the puck and had a real knack for cutting in and out of traffic. Obviously his greatest skill is his passing and playmaking…so amazing at drawing defenders to himself and spotting the open guy anywhere on the ice. He just always knew where Kurri or Coffey would be. That Oilers team could’ve won 7 or 8 Stanley Cups if the game’s economics didn’t force the team’s breakup.

When the goalies just flop around and go for desperation saves on every shot it is hard to know how he would fare in the current era.

Gretzky is one of very few professional athletes in history that can see he is the unanimous GOAT in his sport. For a long time (even if debates have ended at some point), it was Montana vs Brady in the NFL, Jordan vs Lebron, CR7 vs Messi, Senna vs Schumacher, Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson, Jon Jones vs Khabib, etc In the NHL, there's no debate. Everyone, in and out of the sport, all agree Gretzky is the GOAT of all GOATs.

Mario was a human highlight reel. He embarrassed and terrorized a number of goalies during his career.

Looks really slow and weak to me. Even most NHL players 10 years ago wouldn't be able to make it to the NHL today. So if you bring Gretzky's prime to today's game. He wouldn't even make it to the AHL. However, if you give him modern training and all that, we still won't know because he never did. But we do have McDavid who made it through modern training and dominate all the guys now. So McDavid is the GOAT. Gretzky was the best in his time and is nothing compared to players today or even players from 10 years ago.

45 year old Jagr disagrees with you. The same Jagr who was outscored in points by Gretzky in the 90s in less games than he played. The same Jagr who lost a scoring title (Art Ross) to an over the hill 33 year old Gretzky when Jagr was in his prime. The same Jagr who scored 65 points in 79 games in 2016 at age 44 playing against prime Crosby who scored only 85 points in 80 games that same season.

The most underrated goal scorer in the history of hockey. More goals/game than Ovechkin, 100x more exciting goals. 90% of Ovechkin goals are just one-time slapshots. Bure had the speed/stickhandling like McDavid, but you literally never hear anyone mention Bure.

I wish that there were a way to know what later players might have been able to do if the goalies weren't mountains of foam and glove and pads. There is so much empty space to shoot on in that era compared to today. But good grief that guy could score.
