@ColorfulTonesStudio23 күн бұрын
I don't think so. It's been a while since I last worked with this plug-in, but if I remember correctly the compression was rather subtle. Even if it had high ratio values, I wouldn't recommend it as a limiter. I would rather recommend an LA2A emulation, of which there are many good ones (e.g. from Waves or Universal Audio). The LA2A offers very musical compression, which in my opinion comes closest to SoulSquash.

A lot of Reverbs seem to have small sweet spots where the sound is how I like it - without the sometimes 'metallic' sounding tones etc. This one sounds nice whatever you do and wherever you move the sliders and other controls. That was really noticeable. Nice move doing that 10 second dry countdown!! That really makes a big difference in the listening experience!!

Lindell isn't quite on par with NEOLD for me, where it's an automatic buy whenever something drops, but despite that, I demoed this thing and ended up grabbing it almost immediately. 💯 (A suggestion/request: This video is largely an overview+walkthrough with an A/B demo throughout; the talking distracts from the nuances of how it's affecting the tracks. These type videos are helpful to some people, but maybe in these cases, you could add a second, strictly A/B demo video, or even just remove the voice-over track from the walkthrough.)

Many thanks for your comment and the tip! I'm always happy to receive feedback like this. :-) That's a great idea and I'll see how I can realize it. I will try to remove the voiceover from this video and recut it a bit. If that works, I'll upload it. Thanks again!

Neold stuff is great, but I like the additional functionality like m/s and multi band. Neold doesn't even give you an output trim they stick to the original hardware design a little too much in that regard

@ColorfulTonesStudio I take it back, I love Neold the way it is. The LA2A has a gain input and a peak reduction. That's the way you drive it 🚗💨 they did add age and drive controls which was a nice touch

Solid video. 🙏 Being a fan of the AMEK EQs and Compressor, I grabbed this when it dropped, and was immediately disappointented. Straight away, it started spiking like a mf'er in both Studio One and Reaper, from about 18%-35% CPU usage, even peaking at up to 45%. This obviously makes it utterly useless as a channel strip, besides being unacceptably optimized. And the only thing that I got from PA support (technically, NI fielded it,) was questions about my rig, after I'd made it clear my machine wasn't choking, not with an i7/~4.2gHz/32GB RAM. A few forum searches found a lot of people having this same issue. Again, disappointing, as I dig the AMEK sound.

Many thanks for your comments! I really appreciate that and I'm glad you like my videos. The problem you describe sounds very frustrating. I'm also a fan of the two AMEK EQs, but admittedly I've hardly used the Channel Strip so far. I'm glad that you've drawn attention to the problem. I'll keep an eye on this with my computer too. Thanks again and have a nice day! Michael

Actually, this compressor is real and NO, it is not inspired by the 160VU. This plugin is an exact emulation of the DBX 118 dynamic range enhancer, in fact that is its real name. I have one right in front of me in my studio. It's from 1972 and sounds amazing. This plugin sounds very similar but it still lacks a certain aggression, it is still super interesting that they have made this DBX 118 plugin, it is becoming more and more popular. not many people know him.

To due a fair comparison on the Kiive you should have turned off the bottom module off completely. Even though the knobs were at 1 your Comp and Saturation mix knobs were pegged probably muddying the sound up slightly.
@ColorfulTonesStudio3 ай бұрын
Hello and thanks for your comment! With comparisons of this kind, it's always a balancing act, as an exact match is simply impossible. The compressors differ too much in terms of their functions and sound character. I always try to make the settings as similar as possible. As far as your suggestion is concerned, I can only agree with you to a limited extent. The other compressors also color the sound. If I had turned off the module on the Kiive, the sound of the XT Comp might have been too clean in comparison. But as I said, matching is not easy with something like this and is often a matter of opinion.
@waynebaker24523 ай бұрын
@@ColorfulTonesStudio I agree that trying to make a fair comparison is almost impossible because each circuit and modeling is different. I did feel however those settings had an effect that could have muddied the sound of the Kiive and probably wouldn’t have mentioned it except that the Sat and Mix knob were pegged. If turning the Saturation circuit off would have made it cleaner it maybe would have compared more to the others. Loved the video anyway and great job informing us of their differences. Keep up the good work! As you said there’s no way to do a perfect comparison.

It makes it easy to interact by quick forwarding or rewinding in between the different Compressors which makes it a lot easier to listen to.
