Are the sparks from the cylinder walls and piston?
@HotRodTractor6 ай бұрын
@ibrahimdeniz7308 no this is done on purpose for the show. This is a steam traction engine with a fire heating a boiler full of water to create power and motion. For show purposes they build a hot fire and throw sawdust on it, put the tractor under load, and that turns the blower up for the fire box pushing lots of air and taking lots of sparks with it.
This is at the National Threshers Association reunion in Wauseon, Ohio, right?

It might be easier to say what I don't have. I don't have the front of the frame, the hitch, the rear wheel weights, I think I have most everything else.

Tractor just may be older than the driver AND her helpers.

1917 was when this version was originally built. The only part that survived was the transmission case and thr gearing..... the rest of this tractor was fabricated based on a couple of paragraphs out of an engineering notebook. No known photos exist of this version. I know there were photos of a later version, and I believe there are of an earlier version. So.... is it new or is it old? 😀

Oh that noise is satisfying. Just makes me want to have on a sleeved white shirt, soaked in cold water first, then listen to some Doctor Who on the QC-20 noise canceling headphones and just drive on on that tractor and till the land. What? I’m a simple guy with simple wants and needs

I have never seen anyone put gasoline in a compression release and I drove "D"s all my childhood in the 50s and 60s.
@HotRodTractor Жыл бұрын
The early Ds such as this one had priming cups. Its in the manual to prime them with gas and it makes these early ones start so much easier. The Primer cups went away in the 1930s and by that time the carburetors were much better and overall easier to start.

No the paint is not stock. Lol I wish it was still in the original as found condition, as I have seen pictures of it.... but I can't control what someone did with it before I owned it.

I had a D model, and I have just one question: Who in the world allowed you to install that suffocating “muffler” on that fine engine???
@HotRodTractor Жыл бұрын
You don't like my factory optional spark arrestor? I'd hardly call that suffocating. In fact many find these tractors run better with them.

The John Deere 1923 or 24 spoker D didn’t burn gas it burned kerosene which is oil from corn
@HotRodTractor Жыл бұрын
Actually it burned "distillate" after it was started up on gas. Once warmed up it was switched over. Also kerosene is not oil from corn. It is a fossil fuel just like diesel or gasoline. Most people that are working these tractors these days mix diesel and kerosene to use in place of distillate.
@kiwitrainguy Жыл бұрын
Kerosene is made from oil but some of it used to be made from coal. That's why it was referred to as Coal Oil.
