While I agree that a tank should be faster than the dps to be able to pull all the mobs some dps really make that difficult by using gap closers that don’t require a target and in my experience it’s always been those dps that then start crying when they die because they went too far ahead and the tank physically could not catch up

Stacking mids isn't bad. Not saying you should stack them all on one attack, but if it's multilpicative like you're assuming. 1000 hp- 1000 damage=Dies in one hit 1000 hp-500 damage =Dies in two hits(Equal too A 100% hp increase) 1000-250= Dies in 4 hits (Equal too a 400% hp increase)
@KimiStelle2 ай бұрын
I addressed this within the video itself. Stack mits at once, you take full damage when they expire. Space mits out then, (provided the incoming damage is consistent, which it is in low-end content) you've mitigated more total damage.
@BMXPro-l2r2 ай бұрын
Wait Kiting does "mitigate" damage though in the sense of delaying an auto if they have no other mitigation in their kit to spend, If mobs are still somewhat healthy after mitigation has expired due to bad DPS kiting can offset the amount of damage intake by an extra 1 to 2 seconds for the healer to try and catch up with a OGCD or a GCD heal (if they have no more single target burst healing abilities) kzbin.info/www/bejne/aajCi2ika6ZgeM0
@KimiStelle2 ай бұрын
*Finally*, someone who said the kiting thing has a real argument for me to dissect. The technique shown in the video you linked is useful, but specific to deep dungeons. It doesn't apply to normal dungeons because: - It's unreliable to do in trash packs, you offset the damage by 1-2 seconds... on one mob out of ten. (And the headless chicken run most players *think* is kiting does so even less!) - Kiting prevents melee, including the tank themselves, from landing AoE... which prolongs the pull, resulting in far more damage taken. - ...it also means DPS kiting trash actively prevents the raised Tank from taking back aggro! (which I know isn't what you proposed, but you'd be surprised at the shit I've seen in DF...) - Boss arenas are usually too small (or rather, hitboxes are too big) to kite effectively, as of EW you don't get that much control over where they are anyway, and the autos aren't the dangerous part to begin with. Lastly, the damage thing again. The detriment far offsets the benefit. However, that is an incredibly valuable resource as there is nuance to it outside of dungeons. Please leave your comment up.

you absolutely can w2w with trusts unless you're a DRK. sub-70 though, can't really say for sure since tanks still don't have crazy self-sustain, and I see no reason to subject myself to that torture if I'm not leveling trusts. taking the 10-min(tops, as a tank) queue for older dungeons is still way faster than running with trusts.
@Gabbreillenicole2 ай бұрын
My rule of thumb is, if the tank is new to the duty, then they have a pass in pulling small for the first section of the dungeon, by the first boss they should get a feel for how the dungeon mobs are gunna go and could pull two packs at once minimum, but I won't begrudge them if they dont for the first time in the duty (this includes those who havent tanked that duty before, but have been through it before, even if they were a healer because duty support is a thing and they could have used that for their first time)

What makes any tank the worst and I refuse to commend them is that they never learn to use their Invulnerability, or using it as mitigation. Warrior can pull out 3 Holmgang's in one dungeon, other tanks 2 times, it's free mitigation. Paladin = No damage for 10 seconds. Warrior = Holmgang on 20% hp + Mitigation of 10 seconds when your hp can't drop + when 3 seconds left use Raw Intuition = Full HP. Dark Knight = Same as Warrior basically. Gunblade = Use it at 10-20% since it only now removes 50% of you HP.

and then what makes any healer the worst is when you intentionally do not use any mits intending to use your homlgang/living dead, and their response is to throw every single ogcd they have to keep you alive anyway and then call you an idiot for not using mits, even if you had been using them properly in prior pulls. and god forbid as a DRK that you notice you're in trouble and pop LD to give the healer some respite, they WILL stress heal until they run out of resources and finally let you die once LD has expired.

People here crying about "toxic mindset" unironically making 3 people go for a 50 min dungeon with a healer afk because there is nothing else to use than glare. Pull big, die trying, improve. The difference with wow is that no one will hold you accountable, even less if you say you are still learning. It is more fun to get 30 mins of trying with a handful of wipes than 50 min of 1-2 aoe combo

@ManeEdge2 ай бұрын
Sprouts and players trying to Tank for the first time exist tho. At high levels it can be more valid, but low level dungeons are usually harder to pull big because everyone has less resources and there's not always experienced players.
@KimiStelle2 ай бұрын
Correct, which is why the vast majority of players that would expect large pulls in expansion dungeons do not do so for ARR. During ARR, 2-3 packs is a widely accepted size even if a larger pull would have been possible.
@akarti8132 ай бұрын
I disagree that not going fast makes you a bad tank, As long as you finish the dungeon it doesnt matter if your fast or not, people need to stop makeing these dungeons spreedruns. If im not making any world records doing these then there no reason go fast.
@KimiStelle2 ай бұрын
"Going slow doesn't make a bad tank" is genuinely semantics, as going fast is the closest thing there is to an objective measure of what makes a good tank. You should generally strive for improvement regardless of whether or not there is an extrinsic reward.
@ariamachi2 ай бұрын
going slow is disrespectful to the entire parties time. extremely selfish
@akarti8132 ай бұрын
@ariamachi well you need to get your dps to do more damage cause if not, you shouldn't complain how long it takes. Cause when it takes forever to clear packs of mobs, time shouldn't be a problem or something to complain about.

Hi, tank main here, screw that thought, every time I get a singlepuller while leveling other roles I end up making a loooong inner sigh. Time is valuable. All skill levels are respectable but literally anyone can do w2w pulls if they bother to learn the method. and singlepulling with peak DPS is way slower than w2w with mediocre dps.
@rolks5392Ай бұрын
I have to agree and disagree here. While I disagree with the video's assertion that the tank must sprint, I do agree that the pulls should be fast and wall to wall. My favorite move if there is only three mobs in the first pull, I throw -> provoke -> throw and never stop running to the second group. Otherwise, I'll AoE the group and go, throwing to snag any stragglers I miss. But the key is to not stop at first group, or pause for as little as possible to gather them all, and head to the wall and fight. This way, you're usually out in front of the whole party anyway. Sprint is not needed. But this method of pulling isn't a "speedrun." It's just more efficient. You're all using AoEs on more mobs at once, your mits plus healing should keep you fine, and you kill mobs in half the time. It also makes the dungeon more fun with more going on if you're killing 8 mobs at once instead of 3-4.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. While I can't deny an inexperienced healer may throw a wrench into this approach at lower levels as any given encounter lives or dies by the healer, at higher levels healers become less important or even outright optional depending on which tank you have. so checking if your healer is "okay" with big pulls just kind of... stops being a thing. Even in that situation, dropping to single pulls after a wipe or two will see no complaint from me.
@rolks5392Ай бұрын
Yeah, but the tank shouldn't pull small initially. I'll give a healer two chances. First time we wipe, I give him a pass. Maybe he wasn't fully ready, maybe he was letting himself get distracted, maybe he wasn't fully awake. But the wipe should be a wake up call. Second time we wipe, I pull small. It means the healer sucks, and can't handle it. But it's then and only then. And by then, the DPs know why I'm pulling small, so I don't get the blame.

They have learned a bit with Chaotic Alliance Raids and made it worth something caring for, though a bit more things to do such as more puzzles or alike would be good. Also please please Yoshi-P open up data center traveling, because having to purposefully wake up and transfer to a different server for later is very tedious.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. You're right that this is very much in line with the formula, so while it isn't the ideal state of affairs we can't in good faith be surprised. People will defend it or doom about it as they please, but I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Regarding DC travel congestion, if you're on NA attempting to get to Aether, 5/8 worlds are now open for permanent moving, which may be worth considering if you intend to raid seriously outside of statics. It's not ideal to be pushed towards that, and I'd generally agree that DC travel congestion is bullshit even as a Dynamis player. The Aether Problem is long past its breaking point, and Cross DC PF may well be the only viable solution.

No it wasnt. I wish it was just boring. But it was much worse than that, it was the breaking of what made the previous 10 years of main story quests so great and the reason why so many of us played for so long. As a certain someone of light said in one of the most pivotal, critical and incredible moments in storytelling and gaming: "This is our future, our story". And Dawntrail commits the cardinal sin of not beign our story, and thus, for many, isnt out future anymore. XIV has always stood on its world building and narrative, its storytelling. The one thing it couldn't compromise or fail at: And it did catastrophically. Dawntrail is the second worse entry in the XIV history, only behind 1.0. In fact Dawntrail beign written, paced and themed has let many in the community to finally look beyond the MSQ - And under a new scrutiny, things like combat, mechanics, content cuantity and quality and even if its worthy of a subscription has been called out by community members and press. In fact, as a latin american, chilean, The New World is almost a mockery because thr world building takes a second place and thr entirity of it is consumed by the overwhelming, ever encompassing figure of Wuk Lamat and her future, her story. Musically even i found it incredibly uninspired, Dawntrail managed to make me even notice that Soken just didnt care much about a thematically sound... Soundtrack. Yes raid themes are great, buy always have been and they got nothing to do with the atmosphere. Living at the shadow and beauty of the Andes i expected at least some kind of motiff of andine music, but nothing of the sort. As a friend out it, Dawntrail is to XIV what Shadowlands was to WoW. And no, this in the end is not the fault of Wuk Lamat, much less her voice actress even if the lowercase yelling is truly bad and intrrupting a fight like that... But overexposure is the problem here, and yoshida already confirmed they are doubling down on it...maybe he should go and read those GDC slides he presented over a decade ago about listening to feedback. Dawntrail made me finally, after well over ten thousand hours, to decide to drop an expansion cycle in its entirity. Ill wait for 6.55 release to sub for a month and catch up, i will then judge if i even care about puchasing 7.0.
@KimiStelle2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the thoughtful comment. For the MSQ, I can very easily see where you're coming from. I feel unqualified to speak on it myself as previous expansions went in one ear and out of the other, but even I left feeling somewhat ambivalent. I don't think Wuk Lamat's voice direction is generally any more offensive than the ARR voices, but I would agree we saw too much of her and that the final trial intermission stands out as being quite bad. I think that similarly to Lyse she's likely to be left behind going into 8.0. Regarding content quantity and quality, we normally don't get anything until the expansion has been out for a year, x.1 patches are always somewhat dry with the expansion's major promises not being delivered until x.2x. That absolutely isn't the ideal state of affairs, but I can't in good faith say I'm surprised. *If* they fuck up 7.25 I'll join you in dooming DT, but until then there is still a chance of redemption on that front. While combat in terms of encounter design is the best it has been in half a decade, job design (at least from what I've experienced) has taken a sharp nosedive, and I can easily see why anyone isn't having fun given that our jobs are the lens through which we see all content. There are plans to address this in 8.0, but only time will tell if they'll be moving in the right direction. I'm trying my best not to have an opinion on jobs until I've leveled them all, but that's... difficult. Take from that what you will.
