From memory, around 750g I think. The motor is way bigger than needed, so potential to save a lot more weight by swapping out motor.

nice - what servos you running on the speedo? Just about to put mine togehter
@jay.the.mole.7143 Жыл бұрын
Hey there, yeah running some micro 5g i think servos in the wings so that I don't have any bulging. In the fuse, just the usual 9g servos. The speedo is lovely plane, a lot of fun. I found very rewarding getting it as light as possible for sloping, otherwise bit prone to tip stall. I run a ~17g battery when mainly gliding, more than enough for a few hours without power
@heartsoul4386 Жыл бұрын
great - thanks for reply. Mines NIB at 15 years old, so regular tail, and comes with servo covers that you glue the servo into then screw into balsa spars. I've got some small servos. Was told to try the spring pulley system (using spring wire to act as pressure in one surface deflection, with kevlar string back to servo for tension - to keep light) - will see how that goes, otherwise I'll just stick to the steel rod, but it's quite a heavy rod. I'll try to keep light. Have a few of the dream flight models, but this is first balsa sloper. Am considering the phenoix 1600 for slope. Have the 2000 for park flying and it's great! You still liking the 1600 by the looks!@@jay.the.mole.7143

Great! I think vintage type floaty planes on gentle inland slopes are a magic thing. Using the wings as whole ailerons or flapperons, with a carbon bar (possibly v near CG) about 1/3 back along the wing chord as the rotational axis. Small servos (independent channels) mounted either side of the cabin with short push rods raise & lower the L.E. I have seen the Kiel Kraft gliders done in this way, and gentle slopes give scope for scratch builds on a light construction scale. If something performs well, then you can beef it up and take your own design to a more adventurous, steeper slope.. Nice one! ⭐👍

Please tell me what are the parameters of the carbon wing clutch? I inherited this plane and didn't get a wing coupler for it and can't find the length, diameter, and bore anywhere to replace it with a proper one with similar strength. Thank you very much.
@jay.the.mole.7143 Жыл бұрын
The wing connector tube is 700 mm long by 10 mm diameter. Mines somewhat flexible, could benefit from a stiffer tube
@krotitelduchu Жыл бұрын
@@jay.the.mole.7143 Hello, thank you very much for the lightning fast response to my question. I tried to insert 10mm of carbon into the wing and it doesn't want to be too loose and I don't want to push it in there by force. Can't the diameter be a little smaller? Can I ask you to measure with a caliper? I found a replacement part somewhere on the web, but I'm not sure if it's the one for my Radian. This one has the parameters: Wing Tube for the Radian/Pro. Specs: Length: 27-1/2 in (700mm); Outer Diameter: 0.375in (9.5mm); Inner Diameter: 0.265in (6.7mm).

Hi there can you add the wind speed that you fly each slope eg 10kmh 30 degrees volantex 16s, 5 kmh 10 degrees radian.....
@jay.the.mole.7143 Жыл бұрын
Typical 30+ degree slope, minimum wind for Phoenix 1600s ~7 kts (~12 kmh), ~4 kts (~7 kmh) for Radian (but I run my Rad very light) On the gentle slopes only use Radian and probs need a bit more, maybe 5-6 kts

Hey mate just discovered your channel and I’m enjoying your videos as I slope soar in Illawarra as well. Have you tried the north side?

@@jay.the.mole.7143 Hi Jay, also new to your channel, landing is not all that hard at the top of hill 60, we just aim our foamy planes at something soft looking & try not to hit it to hard. If you would like to practice with one om my foamy gliders, just let me know.
@AndrewWebster-u7f Жыл бұрын
The thing is once you fly there you won’t want to fly anywhere else, it’s awesome. Not a good area for big planes, would suggest a 1.2m or smaller foamy for there. Couple of different ways to land. 1. Slowly sweep left and right slowly backing your way in and drop down. (Watch out for tourists) 😂2. Fly around behind the hill and drop down. (Watch out for Mercedes and BMW’s)😂 Don’t know if that’s helpful at all. Hope to see you up there sometime.

Hi Mike, yeah the phoenix 1600s is great for sloping, just a really good easy to fly all rounder. Can fly on 3s at a pinch, if not on constant power and if using compatible esc. But 4s might be pushing it. You'd def have to change down prop and run bigger esc

There is an art to flying a Radian if you are use to regular powered airplanes which do wheel takeoffs and landings, fast climb out and aerobatics. With a Radian, everything happens in slow motion. Don't launch at full throttle or the thing will start doing loops...lol. Use 1/4-1/2 and hand launch straight out, not pointed upward. Turns require a lot of rudder especially if there is wind. Great glider once you get use to it.

Flies nice! I lost my original Parkzone Radian in a tree and that version is impossible to find now. I have a Night Radian that I gutted the LED's and controller out of. Installed an ELRS receiver right at the very front and fly it on either 850 or 1000 3s batteries also right up against the front bulkhead. The 1000 3s is a nice compromise. Much lighter than the recommended 2200 but still gives a few great climb-outs.
