I call mine a Chindera.. it's a neck thru body of Maple and Walnut and it definitely needed a few things done to it make it really playable especially a fret level , better nut, better rewiring but I had expect to have to put another $450.00 in it to get it to what I wanted it to sound and feel like but that was the beauty of it IMO.. so I added a real Wilkerson gold brass bridge , Bartolini 59 J's pickups and a old Sadowsky Preamp I bought of a fellow player about 15 years ago for $70 bucks.. what's weird is that the fb is real rosewood with real abalone block inlay and it probably weighs about 10.5 lbs and as you stated the tuners are fine ..nonetheless it sounds really good for what it is..but that was the beauty of it IMO.. so I added a real Wilkerson gold brass bridge , Bartolini 59 J's pickups and a old Sadowsky Preamp I bought of a fellow player about 15 years ago for $70 bucks.. what's weird is that the fb is real rosewood with real abalone block inlay and it probably weighs about 10.5 lbs and as you stated the tuners are fine ..nonetheless it sounds really good for what it is.. My main axe right now is the German ( Warwick ) Sadowsky Metroline Express 24 fret JJ 5 string which is obviously a complete different than the Chindera project bass nonetheless the Chindera is a blast to play for what it isn't than what it is.

How many basses do you have that just sits for one reason or another. Bass players love basses and are obsessed for the need of just one more bass. lol

But have you ever bought a good playing flawless Fender Bass . There is always flaws that have to be addessed. It is rhe American Standard made of roughed in guitars that I typically see at Guitar Center and orther music stores. Prices are controlled in the general catagories of different quality basses. As much as I like ro be hopeful for rhe best. Something for nothing leaves nothing. Except maybe a boat oar.

Liked yoyr video. Nice job. I don'r rhink I could resolve in my mind thar it came all hay-wired in rhe electonics.. They are sure good wood workers. Just not good lurhieres. At least Indonesian luthiers have good qualiry control. Alliexpress is always getting bad bass reviews. That's not good advertisement for Alliexpress.. I question qualiry on China made bass guitars and guitars. Thanks for the warning.

Not a problem. Most of us cannot afford a $15,000.00 instrument. Seems like a great project bass.

That sounds great they need to make a bass version all they would need is a clean blend and maybe a second output to split the dirty and clean sound so you can get back your low end and it would be great

it sounds buzzy on the frets it sort of sounds almost as good as a stingray. But your bass skills are amazing

Why by copies? Even made in China? You can get a better-sounding bass, not a Fodera, for $250. Fodera should find ways to sue those folks who are copying its products.

You saved about 8k! It ain't that bad for a cheap bass. I play high-end basses as well but, I'd buy one and put a Tone Monster pre-amp and Badass bridge on it to make it SLAM!

Okay, so I realize I'm really late to this party. Maybe even a bit more than fashionably. However, you seem like the go to guy to ask, so here it is. I've been playing guitar for over 30 years, having grown up a total 80's metal head. Now I have a 14 year old son who I'd love to get started on the bass to see if he takes to it. Just mentioning it to him he claims he isn't really interested, but then again neither was I when my parents bought me my first guitar, and here I am 45 years later still playing. However, my son isn't me, and there's a pretty good change I might be shelling out the cash for him to use it as a corner prop in his bedroom. On the flip side, if HE doesn't take to it, then at least I'll have a bass if I ever want to do any writing and recording. So my question is what would be a great first bass for as little cash as possible, AND what would be a good starter bass practice amp that isn't going to sound like we're playing through a tin can? I mean, as for budget, I'd like to spend no more than $250 to $300. At least that's what I can probably convince my wife to spend on it since there's a huge chance our son won't take to it. He does love music though, so I have a feeling once I show him a couple of simple things, he'll be off and running. I mean, we all remember the feeling of learning that very first riff. It was almost like discovering you have a super power you didn't know you had. Anyway, sorry for rambling, but I'd appreciate if someone could help me out with this, as I know plenty about 6 string guitars, but literally NOTHING about bass guitars.

One thing that ruins the illusion for me is the tuner holes are mis-located, so the strings are not straight. Every Ali bass I have seen online gets that wrong.
