Hey Shell, Love the video! I have now almost accomplished the full installation as well. The sound is sooo much better. However, I'm not really a 3D modeler, do you by chance still have the files you printed to cover the speakers? I do have printers, just too lazy/busy to measure and model the thing myself. No big deal if not, just hoping I can remain lazy. Thanks!

what did you use to space the speakers because that's a great idea to get them closer to your ears. I have a sena and the sound isn't great but if I press the helmet to my ears its a big improvement so your idea might do the trick

I made mine from some foam & velcro I had on hand but you can buy actual pads for them from Cardo. They're about $5 so it's hardly worth the trouble of making them unless you just happen to have the stuff. It definitely helps to have the speakers close to your ears but if you wear glasses like me, you'll have to place them just right so the arms won't hurt your ears after a while. Here's a link to them: cardosystems.com/products/speaker-repositioning-ear-pads-boosters?variant=47476855374130&msclkid=3385bae74c0b12a8bb4cdc2544cf2f44

😂 ear plugs and grommets seem to be the solution these days. I think it's partly due to the higher speeds we're riding at these days. I will say I had a Triumph T-Bird LT with the windshield that was solid up to 90, so it CAN be done.

Looks great! I might do this (bars AND fairing) on my '08 Fat Bob. Was considering the Reckless Batwing, but this thing is sexy, and I like that it mounts to the frame. How do you find the fairing works functionally? Im 6'4 and would like it if it blocks the wind a bit!
@ShellOnWheels
@ShellOnWheels 2 ай бұрын
I really like it! I'm 5'10" & the wind hits the top of my helmet but not turbulently. I've never ridden a bike with a fairing of any kind before so I can't really say how it compares to something like a Road Glide (or even a Lowrider ST). There IS a noticeable difference in the wind fatigue with the fairing vs without the fairing, though. I did notice a bit of a rattle in the fairing when I rode without ear plugs the other day and I think it's the windshield. The rubber grommet system to mount it is pretty cheesy (not to mention a nightmare to install on the windshield) and I don't feel like I can solidly button it down. I'll be buying proper mounting buttons for it or CAD designing & 3D printing them to see if that takes care of the problem. Overall, I'm really happy with the fairing and I'm glad I took the leap!

@ShellOnWheels 2 ай бұрын
The clutch cable is still fine but there isn't a bit of length to spare after these bars. I haven't had any issues with it at all, though. I just added a lowrider ST front fairing & it's good with that, as well. The wires do have plenty of length, thankfully. I'm not sure how high they'll go but for the bars I put on there is more than enough.

Holy smokes. I thought we had big mosquitoes in Florida. Did you have any concern with the edge of the faring rubbing the tank when you turn all the way left or right, like when backing up or something? Or does it not even come close? Either way, it looks so sick. Nice job. I absolutely love a blacked out look on any vehicle but especially on a bike. I love all the black accents and lenses and stuff. That tank paint job is awesome. What a great bike. I'm so jealous.

Thanks so much! The fairing is stationary, so the forks turn within the fairing while it sits still. When I was trying to figure out if it'd work for my bike, that was one of my concerns; whether the big ol' front end would clear the inner fairing. No problem at all. The only thing that is somewhat close is the Screamin' Eagle air cleaner but I think that will be fine. If it vibrates enough to bump the fairing, I should be able to kind of snuggle it back on the elbow for a bit more clearance. And, yes, the skeeters are terrible here this time of year, especially with all the rain we've had lately! 🦟🦟🙈

Thanks! I'm running different tires, too. I agree, the stock ones are terrible! My other HD is a 73 rigid bobber I built 20 years ago & that one has mids, so when I transitioned over to the 'Bob the forward controls were really weird & I used the mids a lot more than I do now. I do like the midpeg riding position sometimes; they are great for aggressive riding! Sorry about the delay in answering, I didn't get notified of your comment for some reason.

Great video Shell on Wheels. Used the speaker upgrade hack on a Bell Mag 9 Open Face helmet which is sold with optional (specific ) Sena SMH10 clamp and speaker setup, so no additional holders were needed as speaker pockets are provided in the helmet. Wire colors are different for each side and no left/ right speakers locations are indicated. On one side wire colors are black and brown. The black wire works better on the red( positive) part of the speaker imo. All in all a great video and definitely worth doing. Thanks

Does anyone know how different this would be on a 2013 Wide Glide? I have never done any work on a bike but I want to learn. I also hate the handlebars my WG came with. So, I thought it would be a simple thing to start with to begin learning. I haven't been able to find any good videos on that specific bike but it all looks pretty similar to this one. Let's assume all my cables and lines are long enough for the replacement handlebars I want to install. It looks pretty straightforward. Unbolt everything off the old ones, take them off, put on the new ones, and bolt the stuff back on. Right?
@ShellOnWheels
@ShellOnWheels 6 ай бұрын
Your Wideglide is essentially the same bike as mine. It has different forks, wheels, etc. but it's still a Dyna. In fact, even my husband's 2003 WG is very similar to mine. Your process should be about the same as shown in the video but you could start with popping the rubber covers off the frame & checking out the wiring to see if it's the same (I'm almost certain it is). If it's wildly different for some reason, then you might need to do a little research but it's a good place to start. Swapping out bars is a great first project and like anything you do on a motorcycle, be extra diligent about making SURE every nut & bolt is tightened properly, for obvious reasons. ;) You can get a proper service manual that will help you along the way and has important info like torque specs in it. Good luck with your project & congratulations on your decision to learn about your bike! 👍🏻
