Handlebar installation (internal wiring) on a 2012 Harley Davidson Fat Bob. For 10" rise, do you need extended wiring? Extended brake lines? Extended clutch cable? Extended throttle cables? Well, it depends on the bars; these bars needed brake lines and rerouting of the clutch cable; throttle and wires were fine.

If my stable was perfect there would be a Fatbob sitting next to me Dyna Wide Glide. The Fatbob is a beautiful ride. My young son has one and when I find the right one it will be here. Love the bars. They perked that scoot right up!

Thanks! I hope your project goes smoothly! The internal wiring is kind of a pain but it's worth the effort. Also, before buttoning your new bars on, slip the throttle assembly on; then you shouldn't have to fight the cables like I did! 🙃

Sweetie' I will be absolutely completely honest with you. You done a fabulous job changing out your handle bars. I actually have some that are similar, but' not as high as those. Unfortunately though' they were on the bike when I got them, and' I don't like them, so' I'm going back to the original Style handle bars, that came on the 2015 Fatboy. It's just what I'm used to riding with, but' WOW!! You done a awesome job taking off and putting on your bars. 👍👍 And' always be safe and careful throughout your rides!!

Well done, they should be much nicer for you to ride with now. I have a longer arm and leg, so the drag bars suit me okay on my 09 FatBob, but i like that you made the choice to upgrade to a higher riser bar for comfort. Ride safe and keep smiling !!

@ShellOnWheels
@ShellOnWheels 9 ай бұрын
Thanks! Hmm, that's a tough choice! They seem fairly similar in styling; the Fat Bob looks kind of like a beefy version of the Breakout to me. The breakout might have a different rake but it's hard to tell without looking up specs. I guess it all comes down to the type of riding you do and personal taste. The Softail Fat Bob has the inverted forks and dual front brakes which I like. Good luck with your decision & have fun with it! Thanks for watching!

@@ShellOnWheels I have no clue some riders don't like Fat Bob but I do, I like the unique look and shorter form comparing to other models. I think I will ask for test rides on both models before I made final decision. Eventually, I will acquire both Fat Bob and Breakout. :=]. Have a great day.

Great looking fat bob! I got a 09 fat bob that I put t bars and mid controls on (I see you got mid pegs mounted up) and it makes such a difference in how aggressively you can ride. I couldn’t tell, are you running the stock dunlops? If so I can’t recommend highly enough switching them out.
@ShellOnWheels
@ShellOnWheels 22 күн бұрын
Thanks! I'm running different tires, too. I agree, the stock ones are terrible! My other HD is a 73 rigid bobber I built 20 years ago & that one has mids, so when I transitioned over to the 'Bob the forward controls were really weird & I used the mids a lot more than I do now. I do like the midpeg riding position sometimes; they are great for aggressive riding! Sorry about the delay in answering, I didn't get notified of your comment for some reason.

How’d the clutch cable re-route hold up? I have a 2011 I’m going to doing bars on and getting a list of extensions I’ll need for roughly 8 inch total rise. Seems like the wires have plenty of length?
@ShellOnWheels
@ShellOnWheels Ай бұрын
The clutch cable is still fine but there isn't a bit of length to spare after these bars. I haven't had any issues with it at all, though. I just added a lowrider ST front fairing & it's good with that, as well. The wires do have plenty of length, thankfully. I'm not sure how high they'll go but for the bars I put on there is more than enough.

Does anyone know how different this would be on a 2013 Wide Glide? I have never done any work on a bike but I want to learn. I also hate the handlebars my WG came with. So, I thought it would be a simple thing to start with to begin learning. I haven't been able to find any good videos on that specific bike but it all looks pretty similar to this one. Let's assume all my cables and lines are long enough for the replacement handlebars I want to install. It looks pretty straightforward. Unbolt everything off the old ones, take them off, put on the new ones, and bolt the stuff back on. Right?
@ShellOnWheels
@ShellOnWheels 4 ай бұрын
Your Wideglide is essentially the same bike as mine. It has different forks, wheels, etc. but it's still a Dyna. In fact, even my husband's 2003 WG is very similar to mine. Your process should be about the same as shown in the video but you could start with popping the rubber covers off the frame & checking out the wiring to see if it's the same (I'm almost certain it is). If it's wildly different for some reason, then you might need to do a little research but it's a good place to start. Swapping out bars is a great first project and like anything you do on a motorcycle, be extra diligent about making SURE every nut & bolt is tightened properly, for obvious reasons. ;) You can get a proper service manual that will help you along the way and has important info like torque specs in it. Good luck with your project & congratulations on your decision to learn about your bike! 👍🏻

@ShellOnWheels

I had to completely loosen the adjusters and there was JUST enough slack to slip them over the end of the bars. Otherwise, you could try slipping the throttle sleeve, etc., over the end of the bars before putting the bars in place.
