I've wondered about this series (including the earlier Bosnia/KFOR version) of models of the Challenger since they came out. For the price, it really doesn't look too bad - it is over 20 years old already! I would like to see the later version with the bar armor; trying to replicate that with an expensive fiddly photo etch brass set would drive one to insanity. It would have been nice to have clear pieces for the vision blocks, but that is something that has "recently" become a feature of tank models. The GPMGs (you were correct, General Purpose Machine Gun) are kinda clunky and the flash suppressor doesn't look long enough - more like a short training/blank adapter fitted; was the same on the Hobby Boss Land Rover WMIKs. Rubber band tracks are usually ok; I'm not spending what the kit cost for metal tracks. Accurate Armour make some nice inexpensive link and length resin replacements. (Got those for my Warrior MCVs). Hobby Boss and Trumpeter both (or are they the same?) do a lousy job on reference for the markings. I just got a Trumpeter BTR-60 PB (dated 2011) and it has two versions with no explanation of what units they represent. Overall, don't think this would be a bad build out of the box. That one piece being an additional purchase is pretty ridiculous though. There are plenty of after market improvements available if one wants to indulge in them.
@makrcmodels6076 Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not a terrible kit, but definitely could do with improvements as you said, like the clear vision ports. it wouldn’t surprise if the hobby boss kit in a Rebox of this kit or they shared mouldings for both this is the only challenger 2 kit I have so I wouldn’t really know where this kit would stand up to the likes of companies. I also agree a later version of this tank would be amazing

@HushtheMag Жыл бұрын
As a teenager going into my early 20's I've always built aircraft, stopped modeling for a few years until my 32nd birthday when I bought this kit 2 months ago. It's my first Galleon It was a very fun and interesting build, My only complaints were the ratlines were poorly measured on the instructions and the masts/sails were made to face forward, which made for a very poor display piece especially considering they included a plaque which seems pointless considering the viewing side is meant to display the full majesty of the ship including the sails (Which I glue calico over because the vaccum formed plastic looked shit.

Is this the original Panther Ausf A? The turret is much too small and it is necessary to scratchbuild a new turret for the kit.
@makrcmodels6076 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if this is the original Ausf A, you could probably scratchbuild a new turret but out of the box this is a really nice kit

Thanks for the update. Many of these Airfix kits should be re-engineered as the molds are producing poorly fitting parts now. I have just bought this kit and don't think I will proceed with the build. The Revell HMS Bounty that I have in my stash is a much better kit.
@davidrobinson4118 Жыл бұрын
I have just started this kit and yes it does have its issues but I think you should still build it. What I would do though is build the Bounty first if you don't have much experience in building sailing ships. I am not an experienced ship builder myself and these things do take a bit more effort, if that's the right word to use, than say a tank. I built the Bounty this year, bought it from The Works for ten quid. It's a fun build and great value and a better one to start with than the Victory. I was recently given some superb old Heller sailing ships by a friend and my thinking was to use the Bounty and the Victory as a learning curve before I tackle one of the Heller kits. I also think it's a good idea to have what's called a mojo build to run alongside a 'challenging' build. Something like a simple aircraft or a piece of armour etc. I find it helps to take a little break from a build that you know is going to take a bit of time and just have change. Apologies if I'm teaching you how to suck eggs here! Anyway, enough of my waffling, take care and happy modelling.

It will a good model but there is some issues with this model (not you!!) because it is completely missing the central grease point on both sides and and its grease lines, the hydraulic lining from the pto to the breaks, all the electric cables especially around the dashboard and the radios, that also with the ceiling of the turret. But unfortunately there are two glaring omissions: the big tube connected to the extraction fan from the spent cartridges bin and the box to pick the cartridges from the coaxial MG 34 willa tube connected to a bin. Good job 👍 👍

A very challenging kit, whether you are lucky enough to get your hands on a vintage example or the modern re-release. I built the original release when I was 15 and it nearly drove me loony. The hull had a defect under one gun-port, was short-shot in several places, the vacuum-formed sails were partially crushed, about a zillion parts had come loose and the whole wretched thing was molded in black plastic like old Pyro kits from the 60s. Lacking an airbrush I quickly realized every damn piece would have to be painted in multiple coats. Parts are microscopic, and the sheer complexity of this kit, with its crazy Airfix mitred corners, pillar-supported gundeck and nearly a hundred separate gun-port covers, makes for a far more detailed kit than most of its siblings in this series (compare to the Vasa or the Golden Hind, for instance). If you are able to overcome these issues and your kit is relatively unblemished, you should be able, with some patience and care, to produce an outstanding replica of this most famous sailing ship. I recently purchased one of the new releases, which I'm happy to say to is a very good, clean molding. I'm looking forward to a redo. Thanks for posting.
