A very challenging kit, whether you are lucky enough to get your hands on a vintage example or the modern re-release. I built the original release when I was 15 and it nearly drove me loony. The hull had a defect under one gun-port, was short-shot in several places, the vacuum-formed sails were partially crushed, about a zillion parts had come loose and the whole wretched thing was molded in black plastic like old Pyro kits from the 60s. Lacking an airbrush I quickly realized every damn piece would have to be painted in multiple coats. Parts are microscopic, and the sheer complexity of this kit, with its crazy Airfix mitred corners, pillar-supported gundeck and nearly a hundred separate gun-port covers, makes for a far more detailed kit than most of its siblings in this series (compare to the Vasa or the Golden Hind, for instance). If you are able to overcome these issues and your kit is relatively unblemished, you should be able, with some patience and care, to produce an outstanding replica of this most famous sailing ship. I recently purchased one of the new releases, which I'm happy to say to is a very good, clean molding. I'm looking forward to a redo. Thanks for posting.

I'm looking at doing an update video of this kit just to show progress so far once I have sorted some other videos out

As a teenager going into my early 20's I've always built aircraft, stopped modeling for a few years until my 32nd birthday when I bought this kit 2 months ago. It's my first Galleon It was a very fun and interesting build, My only complaints were the ratlines were poorly measured on the instructions and the masts/sails were made to face forward, which made for a very poor display piece especially considering they included a plaque which seems pointless considering the viewing side is meant to display the full majesty of the ship including the sails (Which I glue calico over because the vaccum formed plastic looked shit.

After getting about half way through the build I did start to notice some things, I probably won’t be using the sails unless I can find some cloth ones

My father put this model together for my bro. It was absolutely stunning. Good luck. It's my favourite galleon. I'd been wondering if airfix still sold them.🤔 👍❤️❤️❤️
@makrcmodels60762 жыл бұрын
Airfix do still sell them you can get them either on the website or most model shops online I got mine from Amazon

Lots of painting to be done 😅 I would love to see you go for a weathered wood look

I would of, if this was exposed wood but this has painted I might try something like that on a different ship

What scale is this kit, please? Do you know if the HMS Victory had any ships of the same class?
@makrcmodels6076 Жыл бұрын
This model is 1/180 scale and I believe at the time of the hms victory was built they went of how many guns for the class so I’m not if other ships were in her class or not

@@DavidRLentz no worries I’m glad I could help, with the class of the ship I’m not 100% sure how the classes worked I just know that it didn’t work like say ww2 where you had battleship class, destroyer, etc. but I think they had like galleons/man of war, gunboats, brigs and frigates I think
@DavidRLentz Жыл бұрын
@@makrcmodels6076 , even the RMS Titanic had ships of the same class. My hope would be to build a replica of these other vessels, each in a different scale (I have found three: 1:100, 1:180, 1:225), then presenting them in a seagoing, forced perspective diorama sailing in a line, their cannons ablaze as the ships rake an enemy's flanks . . . .

@@DavidRLentz now that is quite the idea I love it hopefully I’ll get to see the progress on it

I find the joints of the hull woods to be oversized. The grooves are very wide and deep! If I were to assemble it, I would close the hull plank joints and recreate it by scratching with a utility knife or other pointed tool! Thinner and shallower! I do not know! Just an opinion!

I’m almost finished with my titanic 1.400 scale so I’m gonna make this next, I’m not to keen on the rather bright yellow paint that comes with the kit since the actual ship had a more pale yellow tone, could you recommend a colour that would be a nice substitute rather than the one that comes with the kit? love your reviews btw, keep up the good work.
@makrcmodels60763 жыл бұрын
Funnily enough I built the 1/400 scale titanic for my girlfriend and the colour I went for was humbrol 74 it’s a Matt yellow that work very well with the black

@@makrcmodels6076 Oh that’s cool, and thanks for your reply and information, I’ll get that mat yellow you recommend for my victory build next, thank you very much.
