Idk what is more humorus the video or the fact none of your followers are smart enough to see this is bs. This exsperiment is useless and dosent prove anything at all. First thing how does soaking a grain in super glue and seeing how many it spreads and sticks to correlate to mycelial growth? How does the number of grains that end up sticking to it represent the percentage of colonization needed before shaking? You start the video by saying those who claim to wait till 30-50% have no logic or scientific backing for their claim. Then you continue to say previously the test resulted in 9-10 grains sticking to the glue soaked grain and equivilate that to a bag needing 10% colinization before shaking. Then perform the test on video resulting in 16 grains sticking in total , and you then claim that equates to 1/16th colinization. im guessing you say that because you couldnt covert it to a percentage in your head? (6.25%). So when the glue soaked grain picked up 10 pieces it equaled 10% but then when it picked up 60% more grains (16) you call it 1/16 or 6.25%. how do you not see that makes zero sense? On another not as you see in the video there is no controlled variables in your test at all. all the grain are different in size and there is also no set number of grains in that petri dish so how could you possibly conclude a colinization percentage from this so called test lol. See the guys who claim 30-50% colonised before shaking actually have logical scientific evidence backing their claim unlike yours. Those guys run thousands of test grows using the same strong consistent isolated genetics, same grain spawn, and same grain spawn container and they shake a select number of bags at at each colinization percentage. then track to see at wich colinization rate when being shaken cosistently reaches 100% colinization fastest. Your video is equivalent to an improv comedian trying to teach people quantum physics lmfao

Brilliant, do you leave the filter in at all times or do you just use it to equalize the pressure in the jar? Another YT'er said LC doesn't really need oxygen
@CRuggles3
@CRuggles3 Ай бұрын
@@Bentwambus I do leave it in at all times. In the past when I didn't pull all the liquid at once into syringes, I would add another sterilized syringe filter on the needle I pull from, and when needed more I'd take it off. I don't trust the durability of injection ports especially with multiple injections so I tend to use all the LC at once and make them in batches of 15 to 30 depending on the species. I like the lower inventory to keep them fresh and tested. It's definitely important to equalize pressure though. Sometimes the syringe filter will clog due to the needle getting mycelium growing in it and if that happens the jar will fight you and pull the lid back into the jar from the syringe. If that happens i just swap out the needle and filter pair with a new freshly sterilized one. I'm actually doing an experiment related to air exchange: I've been curious if a normal bag allows enough air to permeate to allow for mycelium growth, so I made some sterilized grain in a completely sealed off bag without a filter patch. I doubt it will succeed but I'm wrong about things I think will work, so I'm probably wrong about things I think won't work, so I try them to find out.

@@CRuggles3 I put a bead of silicone around the PP5 straw and let it cure. The syringe filter fit perfectly into the straw. then I would feed the straw through the hole and rest against the silicone bead I applied on the straw then I would put liberal amounts of silicone on both sides of the straw(under the lid, on the top of the lid) This kept the filter away from any splashes. I've had good luck so far. I can send you a pic if want

1. Innoculate grain bag 2. Put in somewhere dark, temps mid 70s. 3. Dont touch, dont look at it, dont handle it, for at least a week. RESIST TEMPRATION!!!! 4. Check your bag after 7-10 days, youll be amazed at what you see. White, beautiful mycekium (if using Liquid culture). 5. Wait for her to be about 50% white. Then shake it up, disperse the myceliim throughout the bag. 6. Put it back in the drawer. 7. Wait another week, NO TOUCHING!!!! 8. Shoukd see mycelium stsrt growing thru the bag much more. BUT DONT TOUCH IT!!! 9. Give her a few more days, a week, peek in every 2 days just look, wait for the bag to be alllll white. 10. Get your tub, your CVG, and mix it all up nice n good!!! 11.) Wait for it to all recolonize, alllll white. 12. Send her into fruiting!

I disagree. The bag should be opened up. Not unsealed but opened up to allow air to fill it. The inoculation point is on the bottom on purpose. I think your issue is there's not enough air in the bag for full colonization.
@CRuggles3
@CRuggles3 4 ай бұрын
I'm not saying to keep it this way. This is just to inoculate it to help spread the mycelium more evenly throughout. I always say let the bags fill with air and keep in an upright position for colonization. The reason the injection port is on the bottom is because the manufacturer rotates it 180 degrees and uses the same contoured sealer that's used to attach the filter patch, which is in the top so it doesn't touch the substrate. The rate of air diffusion through the grain is significantly higher than through the filter patch so the oxygen and CO2 levels are going to be the same throughout the grain. By having more inoculation points distributed more evenly throughout you create significantly faster colonization as the mycelium grows omnidirectional. If all the mycelium is near one another, you are only growing from a single central point. Other bag manufacturers have the injection port higher up. For example www.fieldforest.net/product/injection-port-bags/grow-and-spawn-bags

Cameron I just wanted to say thank you. The price for your 6-3lb bags of pasteurized bulk is simply amazing. I looked around and there isn't anywhere at all that offers such an amazing product at even close to your price. I even saw people selling 1lb of milo for $20 raw not even pasteurized in a bag. I dont know how you do it but god bless you for what you are doing. Its going to make my dream of cultivating finally a reality. Also your techniques are simple to follow and you've already helped to dispell many myths about needing these hyper sanitized conditions and flowhoods and such. All of that makes it seem so out of reach for the average small home cultivator. Thank you again and I hope you continue this channel and sharing your knowledge for as long as you physically can. God bless you my man and keep up the amazing work!

I did this yesterday with about 10 glass bottles ranging from 250ml up to 500ml. What I noticed is to better have 3-4 jars/bottles inside especially if they are on smaller side to not to have violent cooking/shooting cap in the middle of the process. More jars/liquid nicely balances or distributes microwave's power, much less liquid is lost. 1 500ml or bigger could work but smaller cannot be microwaved easily even with power set at low, also time can be increased to 15m or more

@CRuggles3

This would be done ideally in a still air box and the extremely small amount of air it might suck in isn't likely to have contams. Otherwise you shouldn't be doing agar work in that condition to begin with

Great info. Shook my 2 recent jars this way at about 10-15%. 1 was Chestnut and 1 was Pearl Oysters. I shook them both at 4 days after inoculation and the Pearl's are ready to send to substrate at 9 days and the Chestnuts maybe have 2 days or so more. I like shaking only once and this is the ticket so far.

What would 5-10% colonization look like? Great experiment 👍👍 and your grain bags work stupendously!
@CRuggles3
@CRuggles3 Жыл бұрын
For a 3 lbs bag, which is approximately 2.1 liters in volume, 10% would be about 200ml. That's about half a pint jar, or a volume of about 2 to 3 inches in size. Although shaking sooner than 10% is likely the best move based on the results.
