Yes, it's a common conversion. It should bolt up to the transmission and motor mounts. It's a pretty straightforward swap to do.

I was going to say the Mid4 2 looks quite a bit better than the Mid4 1, more Italian / Ferrari...but then you showed the Mid4 1 from the high rear three-quarter view at 3:25 and...it looks stunning!. So much Ferrari 308 / 328 from that angle. Oh my, they're both beauties. From the front, and front three-quarter, there's a lot of 80s Lotus Espirit on the Mid4 1, but from the high rear three-quarter, there's soo much Ferrari / Italian styling.

OMG, 80s and 90s supercars, or what we would classify today as hypercars, are soooooooooooo sickkkkkk, look at all those incredible concepts and prototypes. Soooo much nicer than today's with all the humungous wings and intakes and holes everywhere. Today, there is too much obsession with pure laptimes and downforce.

All four of those bikes sound like shit. My 85 Vmax sounds way better with its kerker 4 into one exhaust setup. It sound like like an old chevy HO 454 big block with the Vboost active throughout my whole 9000rmp power band.

the AVS wind deflectors above each window allow cracking each window 2-3 inches and no rain gets inside. And they act like a visor. Can not stress enough to manage the cooling system yourself with Toy OEM long Life, changing each 40 k miles or so. Radiator fan clutch must not slip when motor is hot, and run the radiator plastic cowling top and bottom. And your temp gauge must be working, and you need quality oil with elevated zinc as these are 1980s designed motors, and to minimize cam wear.

I owned a CX500T and I loved that bike. It was a work of art. Best bike I ever owned. Turbo lag is overstated and never gave me any trouble. Become familiar with the bike and there are no issues. I could ride that bike all day long. Good gas mileage and I could pass a line of cars five at a time in a few seconds. I never had any problem with controlling the boost. That bike was heaven to ride and fast as stink and has usable speed.

I’ve owned 2 V65 magnas and one V65 Sabre. The carbs in and out are terrible, and if you work on them, it’s important to know jetting and needle clip position are different on front and rear banks. So make sure and keep the jets and needles with the carbs they came out of. Loved all the bikes, but the Sabre was my favorite, vey unique.

Back in the late 80's we had a pretty good group of riders with sport bikes, a couple of Ninja's some GSX-R's some Honda Hurricane's and a VFR and one FZR 1000. A guy with a V Max showed up and started riding with us, he had the acceleration but on the highway he couldn't even keep up with the 600 sport bikes because of high speed wobble

Great video. The criticism of this generation is entirely irrational. Moderately cared for 2nd gens easily made it to 300k miles, except in nanny states that heavily salt their roads for their sheeple. The 2nd gen is the 1st gen with a new body and interior. The 3VZE was in the 1st and 2nd gen ... yet people seem to go bananas for the 1st gen, not acknowledging that the entire drivetrain is identical. The 4th Gen 4Runner had a great engine, but was a total divergence from the 4x4 heritage, in that they made that long, wide, low, heavy, and gave it a van-style floor parking brake, which makes it DOA for hard offroad use. The best gen will always be the 3rd gen, followed by the 1st/2nd gen, and then the 5th gen, noting that the 5th gen was harmed for offroad use due to NHTSA regulations. They require heavy and expensive modification to make them near equal with the 1st/2nd gen in fully stock form, which is a huge indicator of how good the 2nd gen really is. The market is off the rails, and most people are very clearly mistaken. My parents' 1994 4Runner still runs like new in 2024, and has never once let them down. My uncle's 1990 finally blew its head gasket at 300k miles sometime around 2015.

Love my 90 2nd gen 4 runner. Originally was a 2wd 3vz automatic. I used a 94 pick up parts truck and converted my 4 runner to a 4wd 22re 5 speed. Also swapped in 4.56 axle gears. It's such a fun vehicle. My only complaint with the 2nd gens is the rear tailgate. I wish it was a flip up hatch door with roll down window like the later generations. Other than that. I love everything about them.

Bought a new VMax in 2001. Still ride it. Also did some mods. Switched out a Venture diff to reduce rpms on the highway. Still plenty of torque. Cut 1 1/2 inches off the seat. Put longer forks and slightly shorter shocks for handling. Then forward controls. Now I have a great crjuiser with gobs of power.

I had a friend of my dad riding us kids around on one of these blacktop ballistic missiles back in 85-86! Howie T is what we called him. He got a flat front tire at the lake, and just rode wheelies the rest of night Crazy as the bike he rode! Loved every minute! One of the best bikes ever made, period. WolfmanVegas!

What a great review. I'm currently riding a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, and a Yamaha Stryker 1300, but have my eyes on an '84 V65 Magna. I'm so close to pulling the trigger, but I don't have the room for it. I should sell one of my bikes first. I've owned lots of Hondas in the past including the CB750, and 3 Interceptors, the 1000 being my favorite and this is like an 1100 Interceptor, only more comfy so I KNOW I'd adore it.

One change most people don’t remember is that in 1988 the mighty max lost it’s unique cams and was fitted with standard venture😢cams. I bought a new one in 1988. Sadly the best i ever ran was 11.06 @121 mph. I could knock out high 10 second times on my friends 1985 all day long.

Great video. I love the V-Max. Ad a dark blue 90 and it never let me down for 21 years. Was molded by Hole shot performance and was a beast. Wish i had it now only sold it a friend because i was traveling a lot and modern gas didn’t sit well in the carbs was a lot of work the clean every time I got back. And i had a Gen II by then anyway which i still own to this day. Yes it’s true. The original gen II motors were to strong. They didn’t just detune them. They were larger engine. I believe the one they used was the 3rd motor and it had to be detune to get the combination they wanted and thought would work for street use. So for all those that got one gen I or II. Enjoy there will be no more.

No way it would have been able to compete with the NSX. Way too complicated and expensive. You would have ended up with Ferrari price and Ferrari unreliability. Ferrari already had that market cornered, which is why the NSX was successful to the people who understood what the NSX was....And wasn't. The NSX was a hell of a car, at least the first generation NSX was.

Tough to say, it might have sold well in the 80's...the Z31 is still Nissan's most widely sold car in North America and those numbers peaked around the time the 1st iteration of the Mid-4 could have seen limited production runs. It's a tough call though, Nissan was dealing with the Pathfinder, D21 (VG30 and Z24), S12 200sx, 300zx, Pulsar, Vanette, Maxima, Sentra and Stanza. Taking on another sports car would have possibly hurt 300zx sales and put the Z badge on-track to be seen as a "lesser option"

As a mechanic who came of age in the late 1980s, I struggle to understand how Nissan went from being a proud company that cherished its reputation to a company that just blatantly builds horrible cars and sells them to unsuspecting buyers who incorrectly expect them to still have that drive for quality. I feel so sorry for our customers who buy them. The buyers try to make a sensible decision, and wind up with a money pit. I suspect it is the Renault influence. Like Fiat, they seem to wreck everything they touch. European, and European-descended, companies just inject a lot of terrible engineering into their partnerships. Opel, Daimler, Renault, Fiat, etc. GM is still shaking off the Opel Illness. Chrysler still has terrible Mercedes engineered motors in its lineup, and now has Fiat disease. I don't know if Nissan will recover any time soon.
