Most hikers, especially day hikers do not dig a cat hole. One of my pet peeves is to see toilet paper in plain sight very closed to the trail. This disgusting thing happens everywhere. In August of this year I was shocked to see people littering the woods in the Grand Tetons. Backpackers respect our wilderness more (although some still need to tidy up). I do not use toilet paper, rather a simple bidet. It's easy to make one.... Take the cap off of a Smart water bottle and drill a small hole. It's that easy! Dig your cat hole and rinse.

Okay, Fortune....I am not a thru hiker, but I do enjoy your videos and this just cracked me up! And I understand the seriousness of the subject, but you made a very entertaining tutorial for those who may not know trail etiquette for business meetings. Thanks for the enlightenment.

My plan is to start at Amicola Falls next May. From what you are experiencing and with all the damage from the hurricanes, is this still possible or should I look to start a section further north?

Key to pooping in the woods is to make a "Cheek Spreader", especially if u are too old to squat. Take 2 branches about 4 feet long, paraller about 3 inches apart, prop one ends on a log or rock and other ends in the dirt forming around d 30 degree angle, sit on branches facing dirt end like you are sitting on a toilet seat, poop between branched. Called a "Cheek Spreader" because when u sit on branches your body weight causes cheeks to spread out, this is dome real mountain engineering

Hahaha funny story ...I went off trail a good distance, dug my hole, squatted and mid "business" I see hikers coming from the other direction! Apparently there was a switchback ahead I didn't know about! I did not look up again, I'll never know if they saw me or not! 😊 Hopefully they were looking at their feet watching for rocks and roots the whole time.

One of the best views at Hog Pen Gap is to walk down the road a short distance to the other parking lot. The view is outstanding and you can see Brasstown Bald tower

I always enjoyed the crunch of fresh fallen leaves when backpacking on the AT. I loved the month of May when the Mtn. Laurel was in bloom, especially on Blood Mtn. Leaves are slippery on the rocks. There was an approach trail (blue markers) from Chattahoochee Gap to Brasstown Bald.

Love the videos. I’ve been a hiker most of my adult life but usually just 4-8 hour hikes, but looking to do some over-night and thru-hikes when my son is older. Maybe even the the Appalachian Trail. I’ve done the Clingmans Dome part as I live in Tennessee. Your videos are very inspirational and also educational and I enjoy them. Looking forward to checking out the book when I get some time here soon. Keep doing you man. Live life as you say. Thanks for all the entertainment.

Both Tesnatee Gap and Hogpen Gap parking lots were overflowing on the prior Saturday when I was there hiking with friends. We went from Hogpen to Wildcat Summit, to Cowrock, to Wolf Laurel Top and back to Hogpen. It was a beautiful day with great views. Colors in Georgia are past their peak at higher elevations now. But more long distance obscured views through the trees now. I enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Hi f\Fortune. Appreciate your "help" videos, nice of you to do these. I was noticing the wall pictures behind you, and noticed they were WWII vintage. My favorite plane from that era was the P-38 Lightning, which I also saw on your wall. Very neat! As info, my dad was a tail gunner on a B-17 out of England. He flew 27 combat missions. Look forward to more of your videos, hoping you are blessed as needed by the Lord.

Neels to Dicks Creek is a nice trek. I've done it before. MEMORIES!!! One time I did Neels to Testnatee in the snow. I don't recommend it!!! There's another flat spot in the Swag. Chattahoochee Gaap is the beginning of the Hooch. There's a spring about a few hundred yards below the gap. That's the beginning. Did that section in 8" of sneaux.
