Why is amount of climb in elevation always stressed when most hikers say that descending is just as hard or harder?

In my opinion, descending requires a lot more mental fortitude than ascending. Ascending is more of a physical demand on the body. Comparatively, a descent could result in injury at just about any moment should you not be concentrating on the task at hand. Sure, gravity might be on your side, but after a day of ascending your body might be wiped out and your wits not nearly as sharp. Some moist rocks, loose cobbles, or merely losing balance could lead to major injury during rocky descents. So, yeah, in a way I think it is harder than going up.
