Can resin or polymer clay be used in composimold?
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold 5 ай бұрын
Yes, both :) and all....polymer clay, regular clay (no slips), epoxy resin, small polyurethane, soap, wax (up to about 155 F), polyester (bondo), epoxy putty,...oh and if you haven't made resins yet, then you can also use it with chocolate, butter, fondant... so yes :) lots of different casting materials...here's a video for a two part mold for epoxy resin in composimold kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpTNZqF6mbymeNksi=Tj58iMwDpCSUa8T4 thanks! stan from composimold.

To preserve details, can I bake the polymer clay directly in the molding putty? I assume the putty would soften as the clay bakes, but the clay should still hold its shape. I'm just not sure if this would affect the putty's longevity, or if anything in the putty would inhibit proper curing of the clay.
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold 6 ай бұрын
Hmm...I don't know. I don't think it would be the best option. But it might work If you kept it at 200 F. Be sure to watch because stoves aren't really that accurate. The Putty would soften. As long as you keep it below 210 you won't cause much damage to the Putty. Another option would be to chill the clay and mold so that the clay is harder and then it would be less likely to deform when taking it out of the Putty Mold. And then cook the clay. Or use an epoxy putty that you cure while still in the putty mold? thanks for the good question! stan from ComposiMold

The concept will work. Gold and silver are higher melting temperatures...and a lot more expensive. You also need a higher temperature furnace. Here's a video we just did for aluminum, which higher temperature and closer to gold/silver

What resin would work with your product? The one I use is a two-part liquid that hardens in 10 minutes but generates a lot of heat, I'm worry that the heat generated will melt the compositmold and will make it lose t's shape.
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold 8 ай бұрын
For smaller objects, your resin will probably work well (depending on shape and volume in one area). I suspect it's polyurethane? If so, I like to use talcum powder (baby powder) as a release agent because it makes a nice moisture barrier (urethane reacts with moisture). If in doubt, you can chill the ComposiMold prior to pouring in the resin. This works very well. The resin cures and cools prior to the ComposiMold getting too hot. Or another to reduce temperature AND save money is to add fillers into the resin (for urethanes makes sure the fillers are very dry). Or a 3rd option :) is to pour in intervals so each layer has time to cool in between, but that can sometimes leave lines. Other resins that also work are epoxy, epoxy clays, polyesters (smelly, toxic, and also create lots of heat), plaster (with plaster additive), low melt soaps and waxes, polymer clay, silicone, cement, and others that I can’t think of right now :) . ...Oh and we also have the ImPRESSive Putty that can handle higher temperatures too. Thanks, Stan from ComposiMold

Really neat process! Q: Why not just mix some JB weld "Or similar" in a little bit of acetone and pour that into the gelatin mold? The acetone would evaporate out very quickly and the two-part metal would harden. *All theoretical of course*
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold 8 ай бұрын
Yes, that will also work for a resin casting! Very good way of making a duplicate! You can press JB weld or other epoxy clays or epoxy putty into ComposiMold molds. That works great! I would use the ComposiMold Original or the Impressive Putty because it's a bit firmer. I haven't tried the acetone and JB Weld. thanks! Stan from ComposiMold

nice tutorial, next to your advice about hot metal being hot, make sure the plaster does not have a lot of moisture on it. The oven when removing the wax should dry it but be careful, moiture and hot metal dislike each other and may end up with a violet release of steam causing hot metal and hot pieces of the plast to fly around

@@ComposiMold Thanks for the reply, but I am not sure if I understand your reply...I am not interested in coloring the mold itself, in the resin world there is a technique where you brush mica on the mold's pattern which is then picked up by the resin once de-molded.
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold 11 ай бұрын
@@editek5992 Yes, that I do understand. With resin this would work very well in the mold. These particular owls were made with ComposiStone Hard Plaster, but they could also be made with resins...epoxies, many urethanes, wax, soaps, etc. I prefer epoxy resin for what your suggesting, but other resins would also work. Brushing on the mica onto the mold would work well. Thanks! Stan from ComposiMold

Correct, the activator (the liquid) that allows the Putty to be remelted also acts as a mold release. Andi If your putty dries out, use a touch of vegetable oil as the mold release. Thank you! Stan from ComposiMold

Hey there! So I’m a small business owner and I wear many, many hats. I love this video and the products seem so simple! I was wondering though, what if the thing I’m trying to mold is thin. Like, not paper thin, but like a spoon? Would this method work?
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold Жыл бұрын
Yes, if you're careful. The plaster would be fragile when poured thin, but it would be fine with care. Use a stronger plaster...add plaster additive to the plaster mix or ComposiStone work well, or other harder plaster. Thanks! Stan from ComposiMold

what molding method did you use and would natural rubber work?
@ComposiMold
@ComposiMold Жыл бұрын
I would define this as a one part mold method because there's a hole on the bottom/top where you pour in the resin (silicone here). Usually latex is considered your natural rubber, and llatex is typically dried in layers, so yes, you could do it by pouring in the latex and swishing it around, letting this dry, and adding another layer. A cool concept. thanks...Stan from ComposiMold
