Thank you. I was never taught to lip trill or double tongue. This is useful

I have a problem. The highest note i can currently play is F but i can sort of feel like i can play G and A. Problem is that when i hit the high G my instrument (single horn in F) gets blocked for the rest of the piece.

You sound terrific. Thanks for sharing.

Yep. You don’t center the notes when you lip trill. It is a controlled instability.

What is the app on the iphone for the keyboard. I find many apps, and have tried some but don't llike them. Admittedly I am new to your videos.

Did you use pitch correction while mixing this? The chords sound too perfect.

Heillo, I am a 78 year old horn player. I have played in as many as 3 local community bands, a brief stint in a horn club of 8 to 10 players, and tried some brass quintet playing. I I also play the Alphorn in two groups locally, and have played with the midwest alphorn group via zoom and at a retreat held in Michigan. I am not as good as many of the players I have met, but keep trying to improve. I never heard of buzzing until I saw your video. So now I am starting to do that. My most pressing question for you at this point is, how did you do the Holst "Jupiter" with so many parts? Your tips also are useful for the alphorn playing. Thank you.

Lip trills on horn are fun. (This lady makes lip trills very musical in the intro)

I really like your video, in a few days I'll have to play this song too. But fortunately I have you as a role model.

I'm also a French Horn player, and I want to say you are incredible at playing. It's inspiring to see someone play a (somewhat) lesser known or popular instrument and make sheet music for it. I really wish I could play the pieces, but you seem to have taken down all of your social media platforms and haven't posted in 3 years, so I guess you moved on. Whether you just wanted a fresh start away from social media, or are doing something greater than this, I wish you the best of luck. You and your music honestly rock.

Hi Alyssa. Excellent job! Yes, we are looking for the node between the two notes and our goal is to have a controlled instability. We never center either note. We have to trust our subconscious mind to do the actual movements. Excellent job! Unfortunately my old website is gone and I am in the process of making a new one. I do have the books and the DVDs that go with it. So thanks for posting this excellent video! I am in the process of posting some of the DVD segments on my KZbin channel. I was hoping to share this on my KZbin channel, so feel free to share this on my site, if you know how. Or maybe you could teach me how to do it. One other tip is to do these things on lower notes, like the F# below low G, only playing that note on F horn 123. This makes it easier for younger players, especially. It is more slippery down there and takes less energy. Of course it is out of tune- sharp, but that is not important for the learning process.

You mention that the face should be somewhat relaxed some/all of the time. Can you elaborate on this? Where should I feel tension and where shouldn’t I? My teacher gets on me for relaxing my embouchure too much, particularly in descending passages. I fact she says it should NEVER truly relax when in use. I suspect your answer will be that the corners should be tense. What about the cheeks? Is that a sign I may be trying to hold back too much air for the note? Thanks!

This was awesome to hear! We played Holst for a marching band season. Mars, Jupiter and Venus. It was fun and exciting to do. Love the sound and can't' wait to get back into Horn playing!

This is a very helpful video. I just wish there were no music in the background while she’s talking because it’s so hard to focus on her talking.
