Probably manufactured during the fifties because the caprice has been composed in 1950 by Paul Bonneau

i discovered the classical saxophone when my then husband paul orton studied with a student of marcel mule. then later i learned about sigurd rascher. i prefer the latter. as a non-musician i don't understand the focus on the top tones. every music instrument i can think of sounds better in its mid range.

What a fantastic discovery! So awesome that the old masters are now available for every saxophonist to enjoy. Hats off for the stellar job processing and bringing those 78s back to life-seriously, you’re doing the saxophone world a favor!

I had the great privilege to study under Dr. Leason at Ball State. Love the 1.5 reed sound.

@@geralddavis9216 That is fantastic. It’s a shame Leeson isn’t very well known even though he had great influence over the saxophone.

What year was this recorded?
@monovae13246 ай бұрын
I don’t know exactly, but I know it has to be after 1958 because that is the year Stein wrote his quintet(the Moritz was written in the 40s). Cecil Leeson did commission these pieces, but I doubt this is the first performance of them.

Rascher's breath control was amazing. I asked him once how he managed those long phrases. He said, with a long rolled r, "You must rrrrelax."

I’m so happy to rediscover this album - it was a favorite of mine in High School. I particularly love the Lenny Niehaus arrangements from the Hollywood Sax Quartet library. Fantastic, and thanks for posting this!!

great interplay between Dale and Kate - very intriguing program selection - great technical mastery and tone Dale. Haunting solo segments.

It took me years to pick this one up too. The only ones I could find for a while were in university saxophone libraries.

Thanks for posting wonderful musics. Sometimes I enjoy listening to classical saxophone music. I like the sound of Marcel Mule at his alto saxophone playing.

I own this LP. Very nice, clean recording; especially compared to when I tried to convert it to mp3 with my equipment. Thank you!

As a teenager,this was my first experience with the classical saxophone-I was enchanted! I bought all these pieces and played along with the recording-later,I had the experience of studying with Sigurd Rascher (briefly)but he was my major influence as an aspiring saxophonist I went on to study with Larry teal,Marcel Mule and Jean Marie Londeix That early exposure to these delightful pieces,however made a lasting impression All in all ,Sigurd Rascher was the major influence on the modern saxophone!

Thank you for your comment and experience! Unfortunately I am far too young to have seen/heard him in person. I have to settle for recordings and reading the top tones book.

This was the first saxophone album I ever owned and it had a huge influence on me. I wrote to Sigurd Rascher and he wrote back to me inviting me to participate in his summer camp! I still love his sound and concept. His sound was slightly "brighter" and more vibrant that other classical saxophonists of that day. His slap-tongue and expertise in the altissimo register were remarkable. He expanded the range of the saxophone well beyond the original conception of inventor Adolph Sax. Thanks for posting this wonderful album.
