How train meets on the ES&DT are supposed to go: Theres one train rolling through slowly then the other one is going so fast it's leaving an uproar of dust in its wake, like Native Americans trying to row their boats on a dried up riverbed ("How do the Indians know the river has dried up? The boat's kicking up dust") My favourite whistles (courtesy of the CPLW's whistle pack) are: -D&S 476's Lunkenheimer 3 -US Navy 9's SOU 5 -N&W 12 inch hooter I'm envisioning for someone to beat Jersey at railroading on the ES&DT they'd have to beat him to a switch with an F-71 hauling a 2500 ton freight at 60 mph or something 😅😅 Theoretically he got from Sylva to Bryson in about 42 minutes, which I've not ran that length of the railroad but assuming the whole route takes around 2 hours and Bryson is about the half way point that's ~18 minutes on timetabled speeds

So how long does it take for a train to run the Intier layout? A day? Plus, how many areas are there for just switching ops? Amazing.

You did not mention the major reason for very large drivers on a fast steam locomotive. The rods cannot be perfectly balanced, so the locomotive will either shake itself to pieces or pound the track excessively if we run the drivers too fast. The diesel's wheels are perfectly balanced, so small wheels can run at any speed.

I wish the US would adapt more international signage I think it's clearer. I driven in other countries and found it more pleasing to the eye with their color schemes and graphics.

So to set it straight, did SP and UP MERGE or get BOUGHT OUT? I keep telling my buddies that the DRGW which merged into SP, was never bought outright by UP but rather merged and kept board members

Oh come on! What a bunch of hoooy! Big Boys can't run as fast as say, 844 or even 3985 is because of the size of the drive wheels. Compare them. Small drive wheels give low speed but high power. Look at the high speed prairie engines with their huge drive wheels. Look at the coal train engines from back east with their itty bitty drive wheels. Big Boys are stuck in low speed because of the size of their drive wheels! They were purpose built to haul lotsa weight up Sherman Hill, by themselves, at any any speed they could manage.

There’s the short line, based on a local company, the OT&B, as it only ever goes over there and back, and the main line affiliate, GB&L, Grievance, Break, and Lunch.
