Looks amazing. I have heard that the diving in Jupiter is great. Want to try someday.

@@freedomwanderer91 It’s very good diving. Not much in the way of traditional coral reefs but it makes up for it with the big guys. Plenty of sharks, turtles and Goliath groupers!

Outstanding!!! My I ask what was the depth & the rough date of the dive? I see the video uploaded at the end of Sept. Was it around that time? Asking as I'm going to Costa Rica in a couple weeks (end of August) and looking to dive there. Just trying to understand what to expect from the visibility and marine life, and Isla Murciélago is definitely one of the dive sites I saw to be possible on my dates. Any other advice is much welcome! :) Thanks!!
@joshhart465214 күн бұрын
The date we dove Murcielago was September 9 according to my computer log. Max depth was about 100’ with an average depth of around 60’. Bottom temp was 76F. Bats was excellent. There is a certain amount of surge to contend with there and some surface current as well. We weren’t lucky enough to see any of the resident bull sharks but we were happy to exchange them for a giant oceanic manta. There is plenty of life on the Big Scare and Black Rock. Highly recommend it if your shop offers it. I would’ve liked to do it more but we didn’t have the time. Have a great trip and be safe!

Thanks a lot! Sometimes I consider upgrading to a better camera but I don’t want more to pack and deal with. GoPro does the trick for my purposes.

They sure do have a way of sneaking up on you at night and then dashing through your lights while hunting, like a silver missile!

Surprised that the Staghorn Corals are still relatively abundant for 2023 on a Caribbean coral reef. There are also some healthy stands of Elkhorn Coral. This is good to know as these two species have been largely wiped out throughout much of the Caribbean. And now with the massive bleaching of 2023 that had affected Cuba's Jardines de la Reina, there are perhaps no relatively pristine Caribbean coral reefs remaining. Thanks for sharing this Grand Cayman dive video.
@joshhart46528 ай бұрын
Sadly, what you see in this video and the second part are all the Staghorn we saw in an entire week of diving. It's very isolated and we saw more Elkhorn overall. This was filmed in May just before the rising water temperatures of this summer (2023) and I've been told the damage is catastrophic.

@@joshhart4652The west coast of Grand Cayman dive sites also have alot of Staghorn corals. Especially dive site Ghost Mountain. The shore dive at Cobalt Coast (now called Nova) also has many stag horns corals on the mini wall.

@@joshhart4652I have lived and been diving in Grand Cayman for 41 years. There has always been coral bleaching in late summers heat and the reefs always recover by early December.
