@ well if you design it yourself you own the rights and are free to sell how and wherever you like. Use something like creative Fabrica or creative market they sell files with commercial rights.

Hi Paul, defo have to be brave in this world and take calculated risks, I started a decorating business 18 months ago and it's really starting to take off, for me, it was network, network.. it's paid off immensely. On another note, you are a well established engraving business, do you think there is room for more people to create a similar one.. I'm not planning on doing the decorating into my late 50's?

Absolutely I do, I wasn't the first doing laser engraving and I have managed to make a steady decent full time income, As long as you can make your products stand out above the rest I see no reason why not! Best of luck!

Honestly mate I think you've done so well! going through your Etsy and seeing all the ideas you have, makes me think wow what cracking ideas for products! I'm really new to lasers and wanting to see where it takes me and this video has helped a lot as well as you're other videos keep them up! For me it's just trying to come up with ideas that there aren't a lot of that sell well, i'm sure i can work it out and I'll get there one day! thanks for breaking things down and helping others very much appreciated!

Hi bud just found the channel, loving the content, question and maybe a video suggestion. Postage and packaging who do you use for posting, at first look postage costs more than products are advertised for, so how do you find a company cheap enough and reliable enough to send out your products. If you do a vid on the subject maybe include how much packaging material do you keep on stock?.

With Etsy you have to make sure you keep up to date with algorithm changes and constantly work on SEO if you start noticing a dip. Where do you sell now?

Great video very informative thank you. I watched a similar video back in November, and with in 48 hours I'd purchased the F1 ultra and everything that comes with it ( never had any experience with lasers or engraving business ) Since then I've be practicing with gifts for friends and growing in confidence with the F1. So much so I've set up and website, Facebook page and almost ready to launch. I already had in mind to lean towards a more custom focused business as the platforms are saturated with the same kind of things, again thanks for the encouraging clips and wish you well.

Thanks for your videos. Been thinking of starting something as a side hustle. Which engraver would you recommend to start with? I’d like something straightforward to set up and use but also something capable and has advanced capabilities should I need them in the future. I’m thinking of doing different materials including metal on like water bottles and the like.

@@johntheman a great starter co2 laser would be the xtool p2s just for the ease of use however if you plan on doing non coated metals you may want to look at the Xtool F1 Ultra this has a 20w diode laser and a 20w IR laser which is great in between for all materials albeit a smaller work area. Hope this helps.

Brilliant. No fluff. No American ego. No BS. Just honest advice. I took up woodwork over lockdown. Then I bought a cheaper laser last year, and started selling locally, mainly craft / market stalls. Made enough to buy all the equipment I’d been borrowing, gazebo, tables… and upgraded to a slightly better 20w diode AtomStack, plus a laser pecker 2 for quick small pieces. Not making anything like you are, but building up my skill, confidence, sales clientele and aiming together an Xtool this year to take it all to the mex5 level so I can top up my pension when I turn 55. So your advice is really help. Many thanks.

@tendertreegifts shouldn't is the most important part, because I saw hundred genuine craft people who design and make their stuff by hand without any copyright violation getting shut down without reason. One was shut down because etsy wasn't able automatically take payment from the bank for $1 while shop making thousand dollars a week for many years... imagine that. Etsy should be only starting point and extra place but definitely not main one.

Firstly great video. Looks like you know your stuff . What's the actual profit on your revenue of 51k Id be really interested in the actual profit margins after expenses like advertising etc. You could literally be spending 49 k on advertising and turning 2k profit on 51k A breakdown of costs would have been really useful. Turnover just means you are busy unfortunately. When you say you had to work all those hours it doesn't sound very appealing. I guess if it's only a 30-40k salary you are trying to replace it might be OK. If you really love the grind

I sell digital product and in research I saw a store that was making millions selling something made from wood, so made me look what is it, and they are simply reselling $5 cheese cutting board from Alibaba but they engrave it (custom personalization). Store name is TamaraWoodArts. So yes, if you are in USA or UK (where larger markets are) it could be a great thing to try out giving that person focus on marketing and promotion. Sometimes I wonder how rich would I be if I was in USA or UK; there are so many opportunities to make money if you actually live where buyers are.

Great video. I am currently looking into setting up a business again after I had a Epileptic Seizure which caused a great deal of damage to my face. Unfortunately this seizure prevents me from working in heavy industry now so I have to change direction/ career change in my mid 40's! I need to ask you how the GPSR regulations from the EU has impacted your business and have you managed to get around them? These EU GPSR regulations came into effect on the 13th December 2024. For me, getting my head around the GPSR regulations has prevented me from moving forward.

This is a great questions, and I will cover this in more detail in an upcoming video however to get round this for the time being until all information and guidelines are release I have decided to just not sell to the EU. You can still sell to the UK and the US without following GPSR so for the time being that is what we have decided to do.

@@tendertreegifts Unfortunately, that is indeed the only fix small businesses have right now ... to stop selling to the EU. It's important to note that the GPSR regulations prevent small businesses selling to Northern Ireland as well! For me making Folk musical instruments the NI and EU markets are essential to me. I was hoping Etsy may have a solution where they are able to act as a "REO". I am looking at incorporating laser engraving on my products hence why I am looking at Laser videos. At this time you are correct, I had a seperate business 3d printing sensory toys for autism and adhd and we sold to the EU mainly so have had to completly close this. Hopefully something comes about soon so we know exactly how to proceed because if we follow all of the GPSR regulations it is way to expensive and extensive to survive as a small business. If Etsy handles all the applicable duties and taxes, do you literally run it as a standard uk business and any money coming from the USA sales is just standard income (ie the business doesn’t need to be registered in the USA, no bank required in USA)? In regards to your questions, no you do not need extra insurance, just double check your product is legal to send into the US, and yes you just run your business as normal as all payouts to you are converted into the correct currency so you dont need any extra banks etc. Hope this helps.

Hi, I’m really enjoying you videos. I’m in Australia and I currently sell POD and digital items. I have bought an Xtool M1 and plan to open a second Etsy shop and sell some handmade/engraved products. I kind of went a bit nuts and just bought bits and pieces to engrave, but now need to make an actual plan of what to start with and get the ball rolling. It’s harder sourcing good chopping boards here nearby that I know I can buy more quickly if needed, so that’s something I’m keeping in mind too. I’m looking forward to more videos, hopefully I’ll get my laser items up and running soon. Btw love the guitars, my partner has about 30 and even builds them at times!

I am opening my first boutique location to expand my laser hobby in to a small business. I don't see myself leaving my current job, but I do want to sell in parallel on Etsy. Your channel really interests me! Just finished the video. Good stuff! I would recommend getting an inexpensive gimbal for times when you want to film yourself like a selfie. The auto stabilization will make your video less wobbly. I'm excited to follow your journey!

I've been woodworking for years now and made some awesome stuff, I also do CNC stuff and recently got the P2S for laser engraving.
