Edgar, Do you think the sour water you’re talking about also contained the chile that was used to spice up the chocolatl?
@EyeoftheSerpent3 сағат бұрын
The sourness (or 'bitterness') was likely from the original cacao nectar, then flavored with peppers

I have a quick question. I have found 2 translations for helmet in Classical Nahuatl: cuacalalahtli and cuatepoztli. I think the first means the conical shaped Huaxtec style helmets and the latter the animal shaped ones, but I’m not sure. Is this the case, and are there other words for other types of helmets?
@EyeoftheSerpent3 күн бұрын
Cuacalalahtli appears to be the original term, yet I have not been able to find it outside of colonial-period histories or the Simeon dictionary. Cua-tepoz-tli means 'head-metal,' of the type the Spanish wore. www.malinal.net/lexik/nahuatlCU.html

Is the name used only for this type of owl? I remember looking up the Mesoamerican word for "owl" on Google and came back as Tecolotl. The funny thing is that Barn owl is exactly what I was looking for. I gave up then, but now I know 😊🙏
@EyeoftheSerpent9 күн бұрын
Yes, Chichtli and Chicuahtli are typically for the barn owl. Tecolotl is the great horned owl, which is Word of the Week 91.

I love that you are learning and sharing such fascinating and important information. There is so little mainstream or unsensationalized information available on this topic of contemporary Mesoamerican spiritual beliefs that predate post-colonialism and survived Christian conversation, that still exist in some form or fashion today, and few people talk about openly perhaps as you said for fear of being judged. Thank you for sharing always!

When I was a kid I would hear the stories of the shape shifting and they were made and told to scare. But is that what they were originally meant for? To scare and control or was it something else? Wait for part 3?
@EyeoftheSerpent19 күн бұрын
They had different purposes per area. The Navajo, for example, would tell skinwalker horror tales for children to bond against external threats, while the Aztec Tlahuelpuchi vampire witch was explained as a cause for infant deaths.

The Codex Chimalpopoca, the first book in this video, includes him as one of the creators in the Nahuatl account of the Five Suns, for example. Except for the Christian converts, most of the Nahuatl texts provided by the Mexica themselves describe Smoking Mirror as a god, and all the myths and institutions are comparable to what we know of gods in other times in world history.

I appreciate channels like yours that have independent geographical focuses. Having said that shapeshifting is something that a myriad of cultures believe their patron deities to have the capacity to do. I use the well known figure of Zues who could shape shift into an animal and impregnate people and other animals. Separately, my interest in this theory of shape shifting is not purely geographical. It would seem these entities have the ability to control the electromagnetic frequencies EMF (light bending aka light walkers). This would allow them to be able to phase in and out of the visible spectrum of light our eyes can perceive and even dictate what the human eye can see. Moreover I posit that this implies they live in the world of frequencies/radiation (gamma radiation/X-ray etc) of which ancient cultural called the spirit realm. As you see in the news science is exploring what is known as dark “invisible” matter
@EyeoftheSerpent26 күн бұрын
Thank you for the insight! My research explored what Veracruz communities believed about shape-shifters rather than their physical conditions. However, I invite you to see how I used the scientific method in ways that could direct your own research!
