SCA cupping seems to be about grading and selecting green coffees. I’m interested in the next step - given a particular bean, how do I evaluate different roast profiles to get the most out of that bean? Or is the cupping process the same for tweaking profiles? I’ve got the Kaffelogic Nano 7, which does well for 80-150g batches. I can control all three phases, and my goal is to learn when I can benefit from changing the dry and first crack times, relative to the overall development. My current process is simple… I have a favorite profile that works well across many beans (aggressive early with slow development.) depending on the coffee, I’ll target a roast level and adjust drop time accordingly. For evaluation, rather than cupping, I just make my normal espresso drinks, since that’s my end goal anyway. Any tips for evaluating roast profiles and levels is appreciated!
