This Gave the counterfeiters the blue print lol. One of the best counterfeits out there is a Panerai.

The hand-assembled parts are probably just required to qualify for the "swiss-made" stamp. It can easily be 100% automated in China. Panerai lost its lust and very 90's now.

Could be said for Rolex too, given their mass produced in the millions of units. VERY high quality Chinese copies of Rolex can be bought for as little as $300

@@reverendjohnatom2089 If its still mass produced, where the hell are they? With the current shortage, I wonder what the new numbers are. I see the Chinese fakes all the time in Chinatown. For $300, its pretty obvious its a fake when handled. The "VERY high quality" meaning even the movements are identical go for thousands.

Rolex production line is not much different. Even Patek's cases and parts are machine made. They just add more hand finishing and decoration, which jacks up the price 10 times. At least Panerai is offering such complications as tourbillon, minute repeater, equation of time, 10 day power reserve, perpetual calendar. The most complicated watch from Rolex is.. Sky Dweller. So annual calender/GMT. I like both brands tho.

1:57 first case is a Luminor 40, second case is a luminor 40 and third case is a luminor 50, a differen case shape (less rounded and more squared)

At 4:24 he mounts the main plate and the escape wheel has canted over out of the main plate and its jewel position.Should have filmed that again to get the escape wheel arbor lined up with its jewel as the watch assembler has in the next frames

Essentially then, although a Panerai is a fine piece of engineering and something I would be proud to own if I could ever justify the expense, I'm more in the market for a decent fake. These are made, like Panerai and I suspect many others, on automated machinery, hand polishing the cases made from SS, just like Panerai, and then final assembly by hand with hopefully some care. All for 100th of the price of the real thing. Cloned Chinese movement sure, but for me more than enough for my needs. If anyone asks I just tell 'em it's a Bali special, correct twice a day. Maybe I'm a philistine, but I get most of the pleasure of ownership for a fraction of the price, and without the divorce ....

Lemme guess, you have a Planet Ocean? Brass is very common in a movement. Panerai and Omega are both in the same class (mid-tier). They cost about the same. Panerai isn't for everyone, that's fine. Personally, I don't like chronographs...doesn't mean they are "bad."
