I ran my first ultra at 52, so it definitely can be done. I was a hiker for a couple years before that but not a runner or an athlete. If I had all the discipline in the world I would go back and train for 2-3 months in zone 2 for 2 hours a day, as many days a week as I could stand (up to 5). The mitochondria buildup a capillarization that happens would just set you up for an amazing training block. I’d work on running form and cadence during those sessions as well. You will get some amazing fatigue resistance and durability from it as well. I took too long to do base building phase and added in intensity too early, ended up injured a lot. The proper way to run is slow, slow, slow, the speed comes with time. Add in strides after a month and speed sessions (tempo runs, hill sprints, etc) to get speed. I’m now running hills I never thought I would ever run, by learning to run slow uphill and not let my heart rate get out of control but still keep good leg turnover. Again, slowly getting faster. Best of luck.

Why use Strava premium when you have a Garmin? Training plans, route building, segments, safety and live tracking is also possible for free in Garmin Connect. The social media aspect is much smaller or not existent. And you can also upload from other brands into Garmin connect too. And it is free. I have been paying for the Strava subscription for years and cancelled my subscription when they increased their fees.

Turning off all the new bulls... They better get rid off the e-bikers and car drivers polluting the leaderboards, for which we premium users are paying. But strava refuses to get rid of these clowns or even filter their uploads. Which would be extremely easy in the case of the car drivers. But strava seems to WANT car ride uploads.

the leaderboards are absolutely littered with e bikers taking bikers times, i dont bike muhc but can imagine that extremly frustrating. with the runner and cars winning segements. iv'e alwayd thought it would be easy for strava to filter someone thats done a km in 54 secs and for it to automatically flag it.

I use the free Strava version since they raised there subscription fees last year without clearly informing there users, that pissed me and lots of others off so I stopped with the paid version. For the data nerd in me I use Runalyze. That app might look outdated but I can get way better insights into my running data than with Strava. So for me Strava is only a platform to let my contacts know I'm still running. Never used a DM within Strava, there are other platforms for that. One other feature I don't understand is there monthly "report". About a week after the month ended they send you this report telling you you have ran ...km as if you didn't know that jet.
