I think you skipped over the 0 morale space but in both directions so it didn't matter in the end. Bad luck on getting the absolute worst beast possible. For that action phase, I would have healed once with the carpenter and used two pawns to build the pot. The roof wasn't as important you had plenty of food and wood to discard for missing roof levels for this round (I would not have put that wood on the pile this round as you still had plenty of time for the pile). You really NEVER want to roll the brown dice as it's way too likely to fail and take wounds. Dice rolling is more acceptable on exploring and gathering as you have a much better chance of success. Very tough break but you would have made it out of this round with 4 or so health remaining and Friday alive with a way to heal wounds every turn (morale and pot if extra food, which is at least once due to the goat).
@PaulDarcy17 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I jumped the 0 on the morale space, but it worked out in the end. As for the worst beast possible, yeah. All that good luck at the start came crashing down! Ha ha.

Crushed under the collapsing palisade. You did well and that is probably as far as I've got with the game. I've (we've) never beaten the game which is why it now sits on the top shelf of the bookcase...just out of reach. 🙂 Hey, how about not including "Finale" in the title, it kinda takes away some of the...I dunno...tension?

What else is the knife used for besides increasing your weapon skill? Trying to understand why you chose to build that if you don't plan on hunting. Thanks.
@PaulDarcyКүн бұрын
Once you roll the red die there is a change to have to fight off a +3 animal attack. If you have 0 weapon skill that means 3 wounds! And you can make the spear with the knife giving an additional +3 weapon skill.

I believe that you can keep the larva token until you want to use it, so the food won’t spoil at the end of the day. Think of it as having the larva alive until you decide to eat them -yuck
@PaulDarcyКүн бұрын
New Discovery tokens are placed on the Future Resources space during Exploration (see page 19). At the end of the Action Phase, they are moved to the Available Resources space, where they are now available to the players. At this point, a Fallen Tree or Nourishing Larvae token must be immediately turned in and exchanged for 2 food or 1 wood. Any other Discovery tokens can be kept for any amount of time and be traded in at any point in the round (with noted exceptions).

@PickleTheHutt2 күн бұрын
I've never seen such lucky event cards. They're basically doing nothing freeing up the precious few pawns available in solo to hit the necessary actions. Since you're in such a good position right now, I would play very conservatively and use two pawns for every action. You have enough health to survive a few bad dice rolls easily enough and really don't want to risk failing the builds.

@@PaulDarcy Oh totally, its a beast of a game. I play it once a year or so and have to refresh myself of all its intricate rules. But I still think its a brilliant game.
@EmanuelsWorkbench2 күн бұрын
@PaulDarcy you can always compensate in future turns by discarding determination tokens that you gain to compensate for the extra ones you spent (I guess) 🙂
@PickleTheHutt3 күн бұрын
Did you take a food when you explored a tile with a food resource? You have to take an action to gather from it, you don't get it for free. Doesn't affect the result though as you didn't use it anyway and it was discarded. Moving the camp centrally (to a tile with both food and wood) before roof goes to 2+ is important. You're kind of stuck on the beach now as you have to build more roof but will lose half if you move. Exploring isn't going to be worth it when you're paying the distance penalty.
@PaulDarcy3 күн бұрын
Yup, messed up taking the food, which didn't matter in the end. And I retro-move the camp next episode. Should have done it a LONG time ago! Ha ha. Thanks for watching along!
@dirks98163 күн бұрын
So far its not working too bad. (im not through with the video though ;)) And i'm not completely sure, but i think the morale track ends one space before at +2. The space your are currently on is when you gain a + morale while already at max, you gain 1 resolve or 1 health.
@PaulDarcy3 күн бұрын
Just checked the rules and the last space is a choice of +2 determination tokens OR +1 health. If you need to go past that space nothing happens as far as I can tell . . . Thanks for watching along!
@dirks98163 күн бұрын
@@PaulDarcy Oh, sorry, my bad. I think we played it wrong then all the time.
@ekted4 күн бұрын
Regarding Raging River, you get half (rounded down) of the total resources. In your case, 2 wood + 1 food can be either 1 wood or 1 food. If you happened to produce 3 wood and 3 food, you would get to choose 2+1 or 1+2, rather than just 1+1.

Really nice event cards so far, they're usually a lot worse to ignore. You have a good shot at winning if you move centrally once (and stay there) and build up a roof level each of the next 3 rounds. You'll also want 1 level of palisade at some point and to keep exploring with Friday and the dog (if there's not some event that needs attention) for the vital discovery tokens.
@PaulDarcy4 күн бұрын
I know I should have moved the camp, but just didn't think of it . . . could come back to bite me? Hope not.

I think the treat card is one of the better ones. You can just let it pass and you get a beast to hunt. Often they come with severe consequences if left unhandled. I usually start out by exploring as much as possible and taking chances by splitting the actions and rolling dice. But I get the playing it safe, but you dont have the time to keep it safe and win the game. Look forward to following your journey on the cursed island. RC is one of the first games I got when starting out in the hobby.
@MartinGregersen5 күн бұрын
I would have moved the camp to the new mountain tile, it gives more opportunities for exploring and there is no downside. Later if you have camp built it will loose palisades and roof levels..
@PaulDarcy5 күн бұрын
This is my second time playing this game, so I'm no expert by any stretch at strategy. Then again, if you've watched my channel for any length of time, you know my strategic choices are often suspect. Ha ha. Thanks for watching along!

Great series of playthroughs
@PickleTheHutt6 күн бұрын
Why wouldn't you move the camp to the more central tile? It has the same resources, the hatchet comes with, and you're closer to the other tiles to avoid the +1 pawn penalty for distance. I suppose it doesn't matter if you only explore the lower left tile next turn and then move to be central, but you're also adjacent to that tile if you had moved and it would allow you to explore more than once next round (a good thing to get those sweet discovery tokens early). Either way, you definitely want the shelter built next round. The real trouble in this scenario is the weather. If you don't have multiple roof levels before the weather dice start being rolled then you will death spiral very quickly. You want to get central and start adding roof levels since you lose half of you move after adding roof levels.
@PaulDarcy5 күн бұрын
I'm new to this game (second time playing) and don't have all the strategic moves down yet . . . so, um, yeah. Ha ha. I'll continue to blunder along and see if I can somehow pull off a win! Or you could move your camp in the mountains, it has a natural shelter. It could save you some time to do other stuff like the hatchet, which would give you some Wood each turn. I don't remember in which phase you decide to move your camp... is it night phase ? It would prevent you from losing your first health.
@PaulDarcy7 күн бұрын
The +1 wood only works on a tile that has wood though, and the explored tile only gives 1 food during production and no wood. So, moving camp there is not the best idea for this scenario I think. Thanks for watching along!

Awesome! Would love to see a playthrough using the Optional Aliens Rule from P27 of the rule book "If you have enough Alien models, instead of creating Alien Swarms when a Blip token generates more than one Alien, you can place multiple Alien models" - might be too messy with those annoying long tails.
