That's an unreliable stitch, because if the thread is torn in any spot, it will be easily pulled out.

I will try your method. I hate sewing around the pulls especially when my tape is tacked down. I was always unsure where to start the zipper (at the tape end or the zipper stop) anyway your way is decisive
@CWSewingPatterns15 күн бұрын
Sewing around the pull is annoying! Usually you get a blip in the stitching there.

I bought a new polyester dress that already has a 1/2 inch hem on it. I need about 5 inches taken off and re-hemmed but I haven't found a video that shows how to do this. I've only found videos like yours that need raw edge hemming. Can you help me with hemming an already hemmed dress?
@CWSewingPatternsАй бұрын
Normally you want to measure the new hem up from the floor, so you’ll need help from someone to help you pin it or mark the new hemline with chalk. If there isn’t a raw edge it just means the fabric is rolled twice, so make sure you give yourself enough fabric allowance beneath the new hemline to accommodate 2 folds in the fabric. Generally when you do an alteration you want to make it look like the original, so stitch it same as the original hem.

thank you for this tutorial, just wondering will the pattern work on a4 paper as i noticed you use US letter size and we don’t have that paper in the UK. help would be greatly appreciated from anyone thank you
@CWSewingPatternsАй бұрын
As long as you can see the dashed lined border around each page at 100% scale when you print it will work fine. The actual pattern area is a bit smaller than the paper to make sure nothing gets cut off.

I think for videos I tend to lay out a lot of fabric for cutting so it’s easier to understand. Sometimes you do have to cut wastefully to keep your pattern on grain.

Can I make this without a serger and just straight stitch + zig zag? Also, could I skip the leg elastic if I have a sufficiently stretchy fabric?
@CWSewingPatterns6 ай бұрын
You definitely don’t need a serger but you’ll need to be very mindful to use stretch stitches on your sewing machine. Depending on what your machine has built in you may have a lot of options for different functions. Test first on scraps. A zig-zig stitch can be adjusted for most things. I don’t really see a way around the leg elastics. The result would not be very nice.

How much it stretch on waist, i guess the cloth is stretchable too
@CWSewingPatterns7 ай бұрын
It should stretch at least a few inches at the waist. But it’s dependent on how stretchy the fabric and elastic are, and also your stitch settings. Best to make a few quick samples to make sure you have a good amount of stretch.

These are great ideas! I for sure am going to do the cropped one. If I may make a suggestion or two. For example, when cutting the bottom off the cropped hoodie, Instead of starting at the hem, carefully make a tiny snip in the line you will be cutting. This won't apply to everyone, but, this will leave the bottom piece intact for use on some other project. One such project could be a shirt extender. I. One of those people whose shirts are too short. Also, it could be a skirt or a start of a skirt. Either idea, turn the piece upside down and use the ribbing for a waistband. May need to take it in. The other parts, sleeves, hood, etc, could be used to make a multi colored sweatshirt. Just thought I'd leave a few of my thoughts. When I watch videos, my brain tends to go into overdrive!
