These are Bunkais for Dojo but not for real life. For karatekas who want to know more, there are three levels of bunkai: - Basic (Hitsuyo fukaketsu for Dojo) - Advanced (Kodo for Dojo) - Jissai no funso (Real conflict application for Street)

If you want a good interpretation of kata bunkai watch Ian Abernathy. They are only doing bunkai by mimicking movement instead of exploring. Remember one reason behind kata was for a way to record a fighting style so there is alot more than meets the eye. A block sometimes could be a throw or takedown etc.

First application, the kick incapacitate the attacker. The punch is redundant. The principle is that you can lock, break or totally incapacitate. It is never to hit you opponent to wear him down like some video game.
