Great job. That takes a while to do. Once polished, instead of that sealer, you can wash with acetone, wash very well, and spray with high heat engine clear. As long as you don't touch anything after the acetone wash, it will stick and stay. If you want added insurance on sticking, you can spray with bulldog adhesion promoter then clear. That's what we do with wheels.

Anybody ever see a Dyno test between a Performer RPM and a factory RAMAIR IV or 455 H.O.? I am curious how much is gained/lost.

A set I bought off eBay. They had been powder coated when I bought them. When I removed the powder coating with aviation stripper they had been polished before. They just needed re polishing . If you look on eBay you will see a few sets just like them still being sold.

Really nice car. By any chance do you know what motor mounts are required to put a pontiac 455 in a 1968 firebird
@krsrr4 жыл бұрын
The motor mounts are the same as the ones used on 326, 350,400, and 455. That is another of the great things about 1st gen birds and most pontiacs of this era. I used a “Miti-mount which is an upgraded engine mount for these. If you g00gle “1968 Pontiac Firebird telus “ you will see my site with lots of info about my resto.

Great video I am surprised that the tail pipes didnt change the sound. I wonder if since your pipe is still pointed on the ground it gives it same tone. I also know 3in is loud. Im sure my car wants 3in but i would rather have a sleeper. So i run 2.5 pipe and tail pipes straight out the back

I know this video is old... But did you find that you had any issues with your install location?? Are your waypoints matching up or more accurate to gps back too? Basically is it necessary to install over the transducer??
@krsrr4 жыл бұрын
I sold this boat a year or so ago but I did not have any issues with the install. I liked the way it worked with my setup completely. Having the boat direction indicator on my hdsunit actually indicate the correct boat orientation was the best part. I did not have any issues with the location of the point 1 unit in relation to the boat transducer as I recall either .

I'm doing a cast iron intake. Not to polish it but to get it smooth enough that you could. Don't think you can polish cast iron it has so many tiny places in it even when I ground mine down. But going to power coat a silver color. But what a pain in the ass. And yes there are no bits and pieces on how to do restore a cast iron intake to look polished. So using my own judgment. Using dremel tools, air tools, and a variety of miniature spinning disks to take away as much labor as I can. The cast has such a high texture from the mold back in 69 and 70 that they are truly rough! I had to take a steel cutting head (variety of shapes) to take down the rough surface. Then come back with air tool sander disks starting at 40 grit to cut into the cast, and take it down again with 80 grit. Then again with 120 grit. At 120 its as smooth as aluminum...finally. Its a process and definitely takes a while. Good job on yours. Like the car as well.
@krsrr4 жыл бұрын
Rick Bell I did a cast iron manifold for my Firebird and powder coated it as you have described . You can get cast iron smooth enough to take a nice powder coat with some work. www3.telus.net/68bird/engine_intake.htm

how did you get the cast off to make smooth. i get you used compound and to polish to make even smoother but did you use dremel or what grit of sand paper ?
@krsrr5 жыл бұрын
As it says in the video I used cartridge rolls to do a lot of the smoothing. They are little sandpaper rolls commonly used for porting cylinder heads. I also used varying grits of sandpaper in a vibrating multi tool. Then hand sanding (dry and wet)with very fine paper, then polishing with felt wheels and bobs.. yeah it took a long time....😊

I am trying to follow what you did on my manifold, what did you use to sand in the small spaces around the intake bolts, did you use your bare fingers with sand paper in there or is there some kind of tool I can use? my manifold was previously polished, but been sitting and have some corrosion I am trying to get off.
@krsrr5 жыл бұрын
I did hand sand some But I also used small “cartridge roll” sanding bits and then some small felt bobs to get into the tight spots . Have fun ..👍

I love car show vids . Here in Pa , we don't get many due to the weather . So I check out shows on KZbin , to get me through the winter . I'm a detailer , and have very high standards . When , I do a car I want to see everything around me in that reflection . If , I can't , then l have more work to do . So , I ask are you a detailer ? You capture all of what surrounds these cars , by the reflection in the paint . All but the flat black ones . Obviously , that's what the Owner is into . By far , the quality of your vid is Excellent ! Thank you
