Fantastico il passaggio dall'ultima variazione alla fuga senza soluzione di continuità. È molto trascinante ed entusiasmante.Grande Vasary. Notevoli i suoi Rach 1 2 3 4.❤❤❤❤

Being Polish I was born into and nurtured by my Mom with Chopin since birth. Mr. Barbosa is one of the best, if not The Best. He may not be perfect, but if you look for the soul of Poland, and Chopin, Mr, Barbosa delivers in spades. Thank you for posting this magnificent recording.

It is interesting that Busoni recorded this with open octaves in the end rather than either minor or major ending. There is something to be said about that. My preference is her 1973 recording.

D'Albert's version was (on balance) probably the best around. Until heard this! 🙂 Zhukov's Scriabin is becoming recognized as some of the finest ever recorded. The reverent attention he gives to the restrained passage from 4.57 onwards is amazing. So is his technique and control overall. Like the way he starts the Fugue with an increase in tempo as well, heightening atmosphere. Everyone has their own interpretation, this is far beyond mine. But that's what makes music like this so great, because people are out there discovering it, and re-discovering it, and re-discovering themselves. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmaxpp-KgruEhqs

Agree... he uses a lot of double notes, but his technique is unbelievable. And the piece emerges greater than ever before.

I have listened to all the performances of this piece that I could find on KZbin; actually I like them all but this one is by several leagues the best. Right choice of tempo for each variation, respect for the melody, right style for each variation, constant sensitivity, perfect touch -- one hears Mozart himself playing. What a great pianist.

I once had dinner with Lazar Berman in Bern, Switzerland after a masterclass at the Conservatory. He was and remains my hero. He was extraordinarily funny and unpretentious. He indulged with kindness piano students who lacked the talent to study with him. Like Rubinstein, he possessed the ability to play with the entire weight of his body creating effortlessly a massive sound like an orchestra. But more impressive than his thundering chords where the long passages in which he made the piano speak as if in a soliloquy or prayer. This made his recording of Liszt's Années de Pélerinage on of the most important historical recordings in the literature.
