Nice video, well edited and clear and easy to watch. What's your fertilizer routine or are you relying on the aquasoil and crushed root tabs you put in? Also interested in your light and how long you leave it on for, water change routine etc. I don't run CO2 as the plants grow too quickly as you said!
@Mrs.M-Aquatics4 ай бұрын
Thank you! I fertilize occasionally with a liquid fertilizer (easy green) and Fluorish Potassium for the Java fern and Anubias. I haven’t put anything else in the substrate. The ludwigia repens is suffering a bit due to excessive growth of the hygrophila shading it out but I am just trying to keep things pruned. I use a Fluval 3.0 mainly because when I did my research it had very good PAR ratings for decent depths. The light is on full for about 8 hrs but it does have a ramp up and ramp down for about 2 hrs on each end. I do occasional water changes too but mostly top ups since I don’t use a lid and there is high evaporation.
@shaunneal99814 ай бұрын
@@Mrs.M-Aquatics I can imagine you are getting quite significant growth with the CO2 and the fluval 3.0 at full power! I am in Australia so don't have access to easy green so I make my own using dry ferts that I mix up and use root tabs as needed as well. I struggled with java fern until I started dosing additional potassium and now they have taken off.
@Mrs.M-Aquatics4 ай бұрын
I have used other fert’s as well since in Canada I can’t get easy green either, but I have some family that sometimes travels to the US. I have my light at 75% but still overwhelming growth with certain plants. I think it’s mostly about keeping an eye on things and seeing when plants aren’t doing their best. Compared to my last attempt with this tank, the root tabs and aqua soil have helped a lot so I would say that’s more important than the liquid dosing except for the epiphytes.

Another fantastic video! I really like what you did with the pea gravel in the media bags, do you think putting small lava rock in them will provide some more surface area for the beneficial bacteria? Also I do believe that your explanation of the CO2 system was spot on. As you move forward on your projects, I am definitely looking forward to seeing how you maintain your existing ecosystems, and what you try next.
@Mrs.M-Aquatics4 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I think lava rock would be better and provide more surface area for sure. In this case this gravel is what I had in my shed so it’s what I went with. I haven’t used lava rock yet simply because I haven’t bought any and have instead used what was on hand. I have been impressed with the plant growth with CO2 and for this tank it has helped me reach my goal of having lush background plant growth. It is almost overwhelming! 😅

Nice video! Glad KZbin showed me this one! Next time, if you want to avoid that neon green, try a sponge filter right away. It's good for healthy bacteria, and you only need to rinse it once a month for 6 months before changing it, so it's cheaper than a hang on the back. Plants almost always die back when transferred to a new aquarium, but often come back. Congrats on a beautiful tank!
@Mrs.M-Aquatics5 ай бұрын
Awesome! Thank you! I am so glad you stopped by. A sponge filter sounds pretty good for this type of setup. In this situation I was using what they had on hand but sponge filters are cheap and effective so might be worth getting in the future.
