Hi! I've recently upgraded my gear, moving from a GH5 to a GH7. The Sigma 18-35mm has always been my trusted companion, adapted with a Viltrox EF-M2II but on the GH5 I never used autofocus because, as everybody knows, it didn’t perform well, even with native lenses. Could you kindly let me know if continuous autofocus with the 18-35mm and Metabones adapter is noisy? I’m deciding whether to invest in a Metabones or switch to the native 10-25mm f1.7. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
@ChrisFlores22Ай бұрын
@@francescorivetti3234 I don’t think it’s noisy but idk what your tolerance level is. If you buy a metabones used, it will be a lot cheaper than the lumix lens and still the blurry backgrounds most people want. The sigma 18-35 is still a great lens and I recently sold it because I switch to all FF ef lenses. The positive of using the sigma is that if you switch systems you’ll still be able to use the sigma. If you get the expensive lumix, you might be stuck with it if your ever switch systems. Even your sigma can be adapted to FF lumix cameras granted not at a FF field of view but it will still work. The lumix lens will not go with you outside of mft.
@francescorivetti3234Ай бұрын
Thank you very much; what you say about the lenses is true and, above all, makes a lot of sense. I agree with every word you said. I just wanted to be sure it wouldn’t be too noisy (as long as I can record audio with a microphone attached to the camera without hearing the lens constantly trying to focus - worst case- it’s fine). Thanks again! I really appreciated your response🙏🏻

I just have a Viltrox instead of a Metabones. I know you said it froze up your camera, but im hoping its a firmware issue, since i have no issue on the G100- the autofocus is just unusable in video. Great information. Recently I needed a second camera for a project I was doing, and my main camera is an S5, the original, and so I found a gh5 on ebay for $475 and I grabbed it, and I am astounded at how good the footage looks coming out of that camera. I even bought two cheap micro 4/3 native lenses, a TTartisans 17mm f/1.4 and a Meike 35mm f/1.4 and they both look incredible. Cheap as hell, too. Kind of freaks me out a little bit that the quality is so good. :-) But anyway, the gh5 is an incredibly powerful tool, and so I'm sure the gh7 is all of it too, but like you, I never use autofocus so for me the S5 is an incredible camera and yes, micro 4/3 is alive and well and matches the footage in my s5 just fine when shooting log in both. I also shoot 99% of the time with vintage glass, and I have been able to adapt all of those full frame lenses to the gh5 now as well. Which is pretty cool. I have anamorphic lenses for my s5, but they're L mount so I can't adapt them, but if I'm shooting anamorphic, I just use my S5. Thanks for sharing.
