Awesome video! Really like the idea of the game. The gameplay looks really fun. Best of luck in the game dev journey. Looking forward to your next devlog. Keep it up! :)

"Vampire Janitor" or... "Blood Vacuum?" yknow, like "blood sucker!" it's yours if you like the sound of it :P

Haha clever! I will definitely consider this...

click "project" button top left in godot, then click "project settings" then in "rendering" click "textures" and change "default texture filter" from linear to nearest, this will stop godot from blurring your pixel art

Sounds good! Thanks for the advice

I always love to watch the first moments of a project before it baloons into something incomprehensible if you havent built it yourself. Keep at it fam, if you're from CS you'll take to gamedev like a fish to water

That's the thing, right? The beginning of projects are always exciting, it's the finishing part that's tough!

Hey man, I may be wrong so forgive me if so but I think the reason your torch is blurry is because of your rendering settings which are trying to smooth out the pixels. In Godot you want to go to Settings > Rendering > Textures and then set the "Default Texture Filter" to "nearest". That should stop it being blurry. However that may not work with the Gdquest assets you've got as they are not pixel art.

Nice video man, can’t wait for the next one !

Good start mate. i'd suggest giving video's a quick levelling so the audio in e.g. music isn't too loud vs the voice - and it sounds like the laptop microphone here and there, 3 buck budget corded phone earbuds will sound nicer but oh well. for the coding part just keep going of course. you're right often the art and assets will take up huge chunks of the time - you can of course use placeholders to speed things up a bit but i'd steer away from upscaling specific 16x16 pixels especially at odd ranges of e.g. 50x20 . it'll be much better to have an e.g. 128x128 as well as a 16x16 and etc and downscale the 128 if and where needed.. also it might give a taste for thinking about people with different resolutions - widescreens etc but then again you could expand that to people with color blindness / auditory processing issues etc. nitpicking aside. keep it up

Appreciate the tips! Hadn’t even thought about different screen resolutions yet :/ Getting the audio level has been its own thing-probably just need to download premiere pro or something again.

you should disable linear interpolation, its in project settings.
@raidbuffpodАй бұрын
What does that do?

@raidbuffpod makes images not be pixely clears out pixels and makes them smooth, you wouldn't want that in a pixel game

Keep up the good work. Also do you know if the libresprite would work on windows? I've been using pixilart lately bc i cant find anything better, but i never heard of libresprite, maybe its mac only thing
@raidbuffpodАй бұрын
Thanks! Yep, you can download it for Windows, Linux, and Mac. I also didn’t know about it until digging deep into Reddit responses. I also found doing the art on my tablet was easier, and for that I am currently using Pixel Studio, which is free and is actually really nice

@raidbuffpod thanks i will try it out, bc im also making a game, 2d tower defense, but im using unity, not gadot

That’s awesome!! How do you like using Unity?

@@raidbuffpod its very easy to use and got a lot of features, recommend using it

how were you able to import the sprites from libresprite to godot
@raidbuffpodАй бұрын
Good question! You save the image as a PNG into the game files directory. I put it in my assets folder :)

@@raidbuffpod Is there no way to make it work for .ase file though? I've been trying but if I can't figure it out I'll just switch.
@raidbuffpodАй бұрын
I’m not quite sure with .ase files. Godot doesn’t support .ase, you’d have to export it from Aseperite as a .png I believe
